The Concept of Love

It's a funny thing, falling in love. A mutual attraction between two unsuspecting victims that eventually results only in guilt. At least that's my description. I choose the word guilt to describe the loss after love. The feeling of incompleteness that one can only receive after falling out of love. I believe that heartbreak is a concept and a state of mind that can only be obtained when decided. Love and heartbreak is not something that can just happen. It's something that you will realise. People can build relationships, acquire knowledge create memories and theories and ideas, but love? Love can't be created or built or acquired, it is merely realised.

The phrase "falling in love" is a misconception in my eyes. How can falling be good? If I must tell myself that I have fallen in love does that mean I have to admit to myself that I am out of control? That I am no longer standing, that I am no longer alone but that I have fallen, that I have fallen in love. In reality, it's true, love cannot be controlled, I cannot rationalise the feeling of love, I cannot have power over the way that perceive people. I just have to let myself fall.

As my explanation nears it's end, I'd like to talk about why we decided that there was a word called 'love'. The word has a meaning that can't be explained by me. I am just one of those unsuspecting victims that has been hit by love and has fallen. To try and put the word "love" into words would be an inescapable task but to think that we as a species has given this concept of love a word explains it better than I ever could. We don't know how love works, we don't know why love works but we do know that it exists..and it truly is all around us.
