"Have you talked to your mom and Shawn about Paris?" Josh asked as he and Maya sat together in the window seat sharing a plate of chips and dip.
Glancing over at Shawn and her mother who'd arrived shortly after closing up the cafe downstairs Maya shook her head, "Not yet. I figured I'd wait till my birthday and when I ask for a job in the cafe I'd talk to them then about it."
"As long as you talk to them. You can't pass up Paris," he told her.
"I don't even know that I'd get in," she replied.
"What do you keep saying about NYU? They'd be stupid not to take me," he reminded her, "Well they'd be stupid not to take you."
"Well you're kind of like my boyfriend now so you have to say that."
Narrowing his eyes he looked at her, "Is that the only reason you say that about me getting into college?"
"No, you're ridiculously smart so what I say is true," she responded.
"Okay, and you're ridiculously talented so what I say about you is true too," he told her, "You gotta stop looking down on yourself Maya."
"Sometimes things are ingrained, Josh, it's hard to let go."
"Well then I guess I'll have to remind you every chance I get how special you are," he told her leaning over and kissing her.
"Okay! Game time," Cory called effectively breaking them apart when he yanked Josh away from Maya.
"Cory!"
"Matthews, get a grip," Maya complained.
Ignoring the two Cory had Riley hand everyone pads of paper and pens as he explained the game, "So we're bringing out the Couples Game," he declared to several groans from Riley, Lucas, and Maya.
"That's one New Years I'd like to forget," Maya mumbled as she remembered the year before when she, Lucas, and Riley were stuck in a love triangle and had played the game with some of their friends. Things hadn't gone well.
"It'll be better this year. Your partner is Josh," Riley reminded her quietly as they settled at the kitchen table with the rest of the women while the guys situated themselves around the living room area.
"Alright so Eric is going to play host and read off the questions. Everyone has a pad and paper and once he reads the question you will write your answer down and then we'll take turns guessing our partners answers. The couple with the most answers correct wins," Cory told everyone.
"Okay first question," Eric grinned as he pulled a card, "Early riser or sleep in?"
Glancing at Josh across the room Maya wrote her answer down quickly.
Thirty minutes of playing had Josh and Maya currently sitting in third place behind Allen and Amy and Cory and Topanga.
"Next question," Eric announced, "How does your partner take their coffee?"
After everyone wrote down their answers Maya waited till it was her and Josh's turn to answer. "Moesha how does Little Brother take his coffee?" Eric asked her.
"With a ton of sugar and a spoonful of milk," she answered smiling when Josh turned his notepad to reveal exactly what she'd said. "Nice," Eric complimented, "Josh how does Malala take her coffee?"
"Eric, her name is Maya," Josh repeated as he did before answering every question since Eric insisted on using every name other then her actual one, "And if she had to drink coffee she'd dump an entire container of sugar in it because she'd order a hot chocolate if she had a choice," he answered.
