Ana was very self concious, being young and having all this on her shoulders was alot to carry and she truly struggled at times. At 10 she started losing friends and got bullied constantly being called a freak or stupid. At 13 and began going in and out of depression especially with losing her father it was to much for her. she had no one, her friends didn't really care about her, they don't care about her problems and as soon as they find out about her self harming they'll leave for sure. As for family she only had her mum who never had time for her. The ghosts kept coming and she felt as if her walls were caving in, everything was disastrous and she couldn't escape any of it.
