Runaway Max/Train of Nightmares

David pov:

David sat on his couch filing through the last paperwork to get everyone's camp forms registered for the next year. Gwen walked into the room and sat beside him, since she was still job-hunting David had allowed her to crash at his home until she is financially stable.

"Who all is coming back?" She peeked over at the paper David was currently working on.

"Nikki, Space kid, Harrison, Neris, Neil, Nurf, and Preston."

She looked over at David "But that's not even half the camp." He nodded "I was hoping to see a paper for Max," he set down his pen and rubbed his eyes "I just hope he's alright."

Gwen sighed, placing her hand on his shoulder "I'm sure he's fine David."

Gwen turned on the TV when David finished the last paper, after channel surfing, they settled on watching the news. Some car crashes with everyone surviving, a bear attack, but two headlines worried David. "Child goes missing, parents report him a runaway!" The announcer said glancing up from the paper in his hands "He is nothing more than a trouble maker," It showed a man who looked like the everyday homeless dude, I hope that's not his dad. "I doubt max made it that far, he probably just sitting in a tree like the brat he is."

The counselors glanced at one another, "That's not our  Max right?" Gwen's voice shook. David looked back at the TV "I hope its a false alarm..."

Max POV:

He had been away for a week now and now his parents report him as missing. His stomach turned in disgust, "Here ya are kid," the man pointed to a train "It's heading outta lake lilac tomorrow."

"Thanks.."

He walked over to the train, it looked almost abandoned "Be careful not to fall out during the ride," the man said walking away.

Max pulled himself into the train car, cursing under his breath at his own foolishness "David you better be at camp." He managed to hide in one of the compartments, pulled out the phone he stole from David. It had been alerting him for a few hours.

Gwen (counselor): 12 unread messages.

Max where are you? we heard you ran away

We?

I'm with David, he's worried sick Max, where are you

Meet me at the camp in a week, and if I see one cop or anyone besides you two I'm gonna take off got it

ok but why did you run Max, you can tell me or tell us since David's about to break my shoulder to see your messages

I can't say, not right now at least, just promise you'll be there, no tricks no games

Of course, we'll be there Max.

 With that, Max put the phone away. A whistle sounded and the train began to move. Max poked his head out the compartment to see the setting sun and the trees as they rushed by. It was peaceful aside from the train's constant noise. Max let out a sigh and leaned back, closing his eyes to extend the moment a bit longer. He only opened his eyes when he heard foot steps.
