Chapter one : First day

"Pearl! Pearl!" Christopher snapped me out of my light dozing off against my locker.

My brother snorted and commented mockingly, "still nervous for school, boo boo?"

"No, I'm just tired," I retorted and walked away from him.

Today is, I bet what every high schooler hates the most in the entire year, the first day of school. Yes, it's the first day of a new school term. More specifically, the first day of the school term after summer.

Like most other students, I dreaded this very day. However, there are students that are all smiles and excited to see their mates, but I'm one of those that are struggling to keep my eyes open.

Three months of no school for me seemed really short. The first month was spent like most teenagers, lazed away, day and night switched. The second month was what I thought I would never forget. The third month was spent remembering the second month and dreading that it's over and never coming back.

In the blink of an eye, I'm back in school.

"Pearlieeee DARLING!" My overly dramatic best friend screeches from like ten meters away. Now that really got the attention of all the sleepwalking students in the hallway.

I gave her a half smile and embraced her. "Hey Yvette."

"Girl, you've got some serious explanation to do. You went M-I-f**king-A for the past two months. Did some dog rip your phone to shreds? Wait... I thought that can't happen with iPhones?" My drama queen of a best friend hollered. I guess, you all might have sensed. Yup, she's different. First day of school, but still as per normal. Unlike us, she is Italian. Moved here to the states with her Michelin chef for parents, so that they can opened their endless branches of Italian restaurants.

While we made our way to our home room, I replied, " it's a VERY LONG STORY."

"Well then, we'll want to start early on that one." Yvette stated as a matter of fact.

I groaned and stepped into the room. Yvette pulled me into the seat next to her and waited on me enthusiastically, staring at me hopefully with those emerald green orbs.

I sighed and begun, "So you know I've stayed home for the first month of the summer, but I went away one the second month..."

Then, the shrill ring of the bell interrupted me and shortly after with our teacher strutting in, with her 'best teacher' mug.

I shrugged nonchalantly and mumbled, "Guess the story will have to wait..."

Silently, I was cheering in the inside. I wasn't ready yet to tell what happened to other people. So longer I can stall I will.

After advisory was geography, the first class of the year, not a very entertaining subject. Mr Hansley entered the room with all the confidence in his bald head's glory.

The dumb jock in our class snickered in mockery, causing Mr Hansley's confidence level to drop low. He pulled nervously at his stripped patterned tie and decided that it was time to begin class. "So continuing from last term, volcanic islands..."

Yvette, whom was beside me, had her stuff laid out on her table and was scribbling away with her spongebob pen on her pink notebook that mothered the "Yes I'm a motherf**king Barbie girl, in a motherf**king Barbie world. So STFU and GTFO" sticker and pop up stickers of skulls, crosses and one sticky pic of me and her. Oh, did I mention her spongebob looks pretty screwed up.

"So kids, anyone know any volcanic island?" Me Hansley asked, but as usual he was replied with silence, so he answered his own question, "A well known island is Seychelles, personally my favorite." The word rang in my head like a fire alarm, my mind was filled with pictures.
