"Just talk to the police, tell them who did this!" She said after I explained why I was pretending I couldn't remember anything
"No! They are untouchable Tracy!" I said "They'll all have alibis, they'll all be covered. I know how it works, I've been there, I've seen it! I need to do this myself, I have to get out of here and fix this!"
"Look at you!" She said, "You can hardly move! How the hell are you going to do that!"
"That won't last forever, I'll be back on my feet as soon as possible and I have to do this!" I said
"It's madness!"
"As soon as I'm fit enough I have to get out of here!" I said
"When you get out of here you are coming to stay with me and Tom!" She insisted.
"No, I'd be putting you at risk If they come after me again!" I said
"They think you're dead Jay-Jay!"
"Do they?" I whispered, "Can we be absolutely sure of that? Because until I know for definite I have to keep this up!"
She gave me an unapproving glare
"Please, Tracy!" I begged, "You can't say anything!"
She nodded in eventual agreement.
"Can you get a laptop or a phone to me?" I asked
"I'll bring you a laptop tomorrow," she agreed
"Thank you" I smiled "Please try and understand, I have to do this my way!"
Again she nodded her eventual agreement.
The next few days were hard, emotionally and physically. Trying to keep the facade that I couldn't remember anything was one thing, but the physiotherapy and rehab were another. Taken every day to work on my mobility and movement, but I worked hard because I needed to get back on my feet as soon as I possibly could. I was a sitting duck stuck in the hospital. The only good thing was the cute nurse. I learned her name was Tiffany, it suited her, Yeah she could talk a glass eye to sleep and was a little annoying, but she was good company, and a welcome distraction at times. While I was stuck in the hospital I wanted to use that time to do some research. Homework on the Stockards. I needed to know more about them so I could find them, hurt them. The more I knew the better. it had been 11 years now since I left, things will have changed. Using the Laptop that Tracy supplied I started to find out anything I could. It's amazing just how much you can find just through Facebook and Instagram. Vinny didn't bother himself with such things, he was old school, not one for social media, but his new wife was another thing altogether. Just a quick google of his name directed me to her. Another bimbo half his age, enjoying the money and power that came with Vincent Stockard, I guess he didn't learn his lesson the first time. She was a wannabe WAG living her life on social media. Her Instagram posts showed me that Vinny was still in the same place. Big country house in the sticks, I'd been there back in the day. I knew it well. I also learned his daughters' name, she was six now, and it wasn't hard to find what school she went to. Next, I found Justin. His Instagram was full of photos of his cars and gym selfies. Couldn't find an address for him or photos of any possible partners, but he had tagged the location of his Gym, so that was a place to start. Also tagged in his photos was his brother Sheldon and that led me to his socials. Sheldon was married now to and between his and her posts I found out where she worked, again no home address, but places I could start. Luke didn't have any socials, He was a lot like his father in that respect, but I assumed he'd be still running the club. A quick google of the licensee told me that he was. I could pick up his trail there. Mickey was the easiest to find. He was the legitimate face of the firm. His Facebook page taught me that he was also married now, two kids, a boy, and a girl, seven and four years old. I was busy making notes of the schools they went to, the spa that his wife frequented, and the gym that she'd tagged in her photos when the door to my room opened, and in walked Detective Haig. I quickly changed what was on my screen, a file full of photos of Natasha, Tracy, and myself that I'd put on there.
