The Office

Claire makes it into work. Phones are going off conversation are aroused every where. Babies crying. Sniffles and coughs and people complaining. Another day at Paradise Medical she thought. Why did they ever name a hospital that she wonder.

Claire was a Pediatric Doctor with her own practice and on the Board Of Trustee's she wanted to move her practices and merge with a gynecologist specialist.

This is how Sam and her became acquainted with one another at a convention held by Emory's Alumni graduates.

Even though Claire had her own practice she thought it would be beneficial to create a merger that would help create more revenue and also help substain the local community for those who did not have health insurance.

And Sam agreed with her in that meeting.And after that she was head over heels for him. And they became business partners. She was a sucker for his blue eyes and his scent would drive every woman crazy in the office.

But now that he wasn't around things seemed different more dull. She felt like life didn't have meaning at work. She didn't know if she missed him or was it that she was just scared that he was gone.

"You know some of the nurses are mad at you but I told them they should get over it."

"And why are they mad at me?" Claire asks Beth. Beth is her best friend.

"They said you scared the only decent man to look at away from here."
"Is that right?"
" And what else are they saying?" "
" That if they were you they would crawl begging him back husband or no husband."

"So much for privacy around here, what do those young nurses know except what their teachers taught them in school?"
" Nothing about love I can guarantee you that!"

"Yeah but why did you break up with him" Oh my God he was so gorgeous."

"Look Beth if you like him so much maybe you should go and find him and date him it was just a mistake on my part and I should have never gotten involved you know?"

"Agreed" "

"What do you mean agreed?"

"Oh nothing just on the part that maybe I should go and find him and date him Beth starts laughing well hey you said it first all I needed was your permission." Claire says "I can't win for losing at this office."

"Hey you were always winning in my book as long as you had Mr. Sexy by your side." But now that he's gone you look like you've fallen off the wagon a little bit."

"My God am I that transparent?"
"Well just a little, let's just say you have seen better days.""Thanks for the confidence."
" Hey you asked, would you rather me lie to you?"
"What are friends for right?"

Claire leaves the break room from making coffee. Anytime that anyone wanted to know the lastest gossip all a person had to do was go to break room and pretend like they were eating or getting coffee and you could learn a lot about persons life while they were on the phone talking to whoever it was on the other end of the line.

Or chatter from colleagues who couldn't wait to spill secrets . So she tried to avoid this room and others as much as possible especially since the break up.

She made it to the front where the nurses station is.
"Good morning nurse Robinson do you have my appointment sheet available."
"Yes it's right here and oh I forgot their was a delivery made to you I sat it in your office."

"Thank you and please tell my first patient I will be with them shortly and apologise for their wait."

"Yes Dr. Clayton the nurse says."

Claires goes into her office but she notices a scent a fragrance that nobody could forget. Sammie she says in whisper. She gasp in relief knowing that he was in her office that he was at least still alive. She looks at her desk and their were a bouquet of roses on her desk."Chivalry isn't dead and neither he thank God."She gives a bitter smile and thinks within herself he still hasn't given up. She reads the card attached and it says.

I love you more than words can explained. You are my first my last my everything. Love John

"John?" She shouts .

It came to her as a shock her husband sent her flowers "John sent me flowers he never sends me flowers?" She had no idea why she was so upset wasn't this a good sign? Doesn't every woman want to be showered with small gifts from their significant others she thought?

Then their was a knock on the door. A voice from the other side of the door says.

"Is everything alright Dr. Clayton?"

"Yes everything is fine."

"Ok well your first client has already been prepped Dr."

"Ok I will be right in Claire says." She picks up the phone and dials extension 920 Beth's office phone rings." She picks up and before she could say hello
" Claire cuts her off and says Beth get over here quick." And then she hangs up the phone.

Beth opens the door like a madman trying to put a fire out. "Hey what's wrong she says is everything ok? "You look like you've seen a ghost. Well at least he didn't stop sending you flowers that means he still wants you."

"That's just the thing Beth the flowers aren't from him." Then who are they from your husband? and Beth laughs. Claire continues with a serious look on her face .

"Oh God they're from your husband aren't they?"

"Yes" Claire says."

"But hey isn't that a good thing?" Beth asked.

" Well it would be but John only sends flowers on special occasions and today is not a holiday or our anniversary."

"Well maybe he wanted to do something nice, I'm confused isn't this what you wanted for your husband to show you more attention and now that your getting it you don't want it?"

I know I'm confused too. I can't work like this would mind feeling in for me today? I only have four clients today and they are just where for routines.

"I guess but you owe me one a date with Mr.Sexy should be enough to cover the cost"and she smirks. "Go ahead get yourself together come back tomorrow I got you covered." "

"Go get a massage or something."

"I think I will now that you mention right before I go to the Doctors or shrink whatever you called them I'm going to get me a message first.

"Thanks Claire says." I owe you big-time."

And as Claire is leaving Beth yells out the door.

"Hey and always remember they only time they send flowers is because they love you or they did something wrong."
