'Do it.'

'I can't.'

'You can.'

'But I don't want to...'

'Please?'

'Why?'

'Don't you trust me?'

I looked at him, 'Of course I do.' I sighed and took a deep breath. I picked up the scissors and took a lock of hair between my fingers. I watched the long blonde strands drift to the ground as the blades came together. They seemed to almost float to the floor of the old abandoned building that I had taken to spending most of my time in.

I continued cutting, taking the time to watch each lock fall. I had spent most of my life growing and taking care of my hair, and here I was cutting it all off in a creepy old uninhabited shack because a boy told me to. I had never thought of myself as stupid before that moment, but it didn't seem like the sort of situation a smart person would find themselves in.

'Chloe? Is something the matter?'

'I was just thinki-' I began.

'I have told you this before Chloe, you can't trust yourself. You can't trust anybody except me. Don't you see that?' He looked at me then with such intensity, suddenly all I could think was that I was such an idiot for ever doubting him, even for a moment. He was the only person in the world I could really trust. The only person I could, and should, listen to.

'You're right, I'm sorry.' I said, as I picked up the scissors and continued where I left off.

His name was Gabriel. He looked like he'd stepped right out of one of those really old black and white movies with his perfectly parted black hair, eyes as dark as night and pale skin. He was my guardian angel, my guide. After the accident he came to me, he would tell me how to speak and act  so that everyone would think I was okay. He showed me that nobody really cared about me.

Nobody except him.
