Anna had gotten home from a long day of classes, regretting her decision to make Monday through Wednesday the days she had all of her classes. After sleeping off the skimpy breakfast of an orange and the crumby lunch of a hard croissant, Anna went to the kitchen to make coffee.

Unfortunately for her, all of her dishes were in the dishwasher so she moved to put them away when she realized something. Two insect wings sprouted from her back, no not insect wings, something different. They were transparent and long like a bug's but they had scenes traced out in golden thread, a little girl picking flowers, a woman proposing to her girlfriend.

Soon Anna began to feel them flickering like they had somewhere to go. Despite the mountain of homework, or maybe in spite of, Anna put her coat on and walked outside. To her surprise, the wings glided through her jacket without making any holes. "This is weird." She thinks to herself.

A cold burst of air quickly accosted her and her wings used the draft to get her into the air. She begins to soar over the college campus, past the library and the autumn forest. It isn't until Anna takes a sharp breath that she realized she hadn't been breathing.

The wings didn't drag her, that wasn't the right word, but they did in a way. She went willingly but the wings still seemed to be fixated on tugging her. Eventually Anna sees what she thinks is her final destination, a clock tower. Her wings place her on the top of the roof. She clings to the a/c vent as the wind blows her along.

Unfortunately, the gales are too strong and she is lifted up, feeling as if her stomach and other vital organs have been left on the tower. "Where are you taking me!" She finally finds the air for her words.

The wings pause as if they are thinking. Soon she begins to see the cliffs. "No, no we can't go there." She pleads.

The cliffs, the cliffs that had claimed so many lives, like her mother's. Then she realises, these wings, the pictures are her life, well how she came to be the way she was anyways. Her mother's proposal, her being raised to love nature.

The wings stop just over the edge and gently put her on the ground. The salty ocean spray reaches them, even though they are at least fifty feet away from the water. She observes the crabs scurrying around trying to take cover from the diving birds. Then she hears a voice. "It's your choice." The wings fade and she is left standing there.

Her choice? Her choice to do what? Jump. She realizes the morbidity of the situation. Jump and be with her mother, or stay and be with her mom. Anna knows her answer. Whether she would let me share that with you is a different story.
