"I want you to be my assistant and in return, your sickness will be taken away from you temporarily."

I blinked.

Once.

Twice.

...then, I lost count.

"Eve Alvarez?" Thanatos raised his eyebrow, awaiting my answer.

"Are you bloody kidding me?" I exclaimed. "I literally said in the last chapter not to joke about this virus."

"It is not a joke," He said. "I am serious."

I didn't want to but I couldn't control myself. "No, you are not Sirius."

He frowned. "And now who is joking?"

"I am," I said, holding up my hand. "not the one joking about some stupid deal—"

"You will get a salary too."

I paused.

Noticing that he had my attention, he took a pad from my desk and wrote something on it before giving it to me. My eyes were stuck to number of zeros at the end.

He continued, "If you take this deal, you get a job that pays you more than what you get from winning the illegal races and the virus will be taken away temporarily."

When he said virus, I stopped hearing him at all. He was serious but I didn't believe him. Because I couldn't believe that, even temporarily, this guy had any remedy to this virus, God or not.

If he is lying...

"Don't you dare—"

I tore the page into multiple pieces and threw them on the floor. "You are a fucking God," I said, glaring at him.

He glared back and even though his intensity was far worse than mine, I didn't back down.

I continued, "And Gods are liars and hypocrites. So, don't you bloody give me some stupid hope about taking away the virus from me."

He got up from the bed and started to pace around. He said, loudly, "You applied for the job and that was your deal."

"I didn't apply if that isn't obvious!" I gritted through my teeth. "And even if I did, I would rather die fighting this virus than work for you, Jerk."

He clenched his jaw as we looked into each other's eyes. All I saw in his was barium burning brightly and was intensifying with every passing moment.

"Is that your answer, Eve Alvarez?"

"Yes, a thous—a million times yes."

If you can just change the tone in your head, you could actually imagine this as a scene of a wedding proposal. But it is not. So, don't you fucking start shipping me with that jerk!

"Fine, then."

With that and a snap of his fingers, he vanished with black dust.

Ma always told me life is a cycle; a cycle that no matter how much you try to get out of, you are stuck. You cannot avoid death—even the original vampires who were supposedly immortal, they don't exist anymore.

Um, did I give a spoiler? Sorry, I just was proving a point.

I was not afraid of death and it was going to stay that way. So, I decided to live and fight against this virus inside me or die trying.
