There was a separate world among the Mundanes, a world where Shadowhunters roam everywhere. And Downworlders. Vampires, Werewolves, Warlocks, and elf-like creatures called Celies. They call it, 'The shadow world.'

The Shadow World is the supernatural part of the world that Shadowhunters and Downworlders share. Kayla was a Celie, she could talk to nature, celies can't lie, making them the perfect companion. But, they can also be very sly. And matt was a hybrid. With instincts of both vampire and warlock. It was a struggle to be a Vampire living on the streets, there was nowhere to store blood, Kayla would always tell him to feed off of her, but matt refused, until he was on the verge of dying 6 months ago. Now he feeds off of Kayla, but only when he has to.

Another day, another dollar. Literally, they had been living on the streets for 8 months now, when they couldn't afford to pay rent for their apartment, they got kicked out by the landlord. You'd think that since matt is part warlock he could just use his magic to get them money, but since he was raised by celies since he was six, he doesn't know how to use his powers. "We've got to get some money today, I hardly ate yesterday and you didn't eat at all. You must be starving." Kayla whined to him. "I'm fine, and I'll try to get us some money today. I'm going by the pandemonium, it's Friday,and it's summer, you know how many people are there on a Friday night." He reassured Kayla that they were going to be fine, it was Friday, and there wereplenty of people too drunk to know how much money they're giving. "I'll come with you. With the both of us there we'll get double the money, at least £100."She said persuasively, in an attempt to convince Matt to let her go. "fine. But you are not to leave my sight, you know how worried I get, I wouldn't wantanything to happen to you. The pandemonium is riddled with Downworlders, and the occasional demon attack, it's not safe." "Don't worry dude, I'll be fine. I can defend myself." She says in a mocking tone. She puts up her fists and pretends to punch her best friend. "But seriously, I'll be fine, you need to relax, I'm not going anywhere." She says brushing him off, sighing "That's what you said last time, then look what happened."
