(Y/N)'s POV
A secret admirer that's what I was. I knew my place in the world so I stayed put. I was at the bottom of the food chain while he was obviously at the top. I was a quiet rich girl that always stayed in the background, never flaunted her family's money, and kept to herself. So why do I put myself at the bottom of the food chain when I am obvious food chain royalty?
Well, I was new to this city. I was shipped off to my uncle since I was constantly causing major scandals at home. I didn't think they were bad and it's a part of growing up, but growing up in the spotlight, everyone saw this as bad.
My uncle was also a huge businessman. He was the CEO of a music business in Korea. I knew the language well even though I acted as I didn't. And my uncle is not really my uncle but my dad's best friend that has treated me like a daughter all his life and I had a strong connection too.
I was in Uni in Korea. Getting good grades and setting my life straight, as my dad would say, but I started falling for a tall boy with the most precious smile.
He could do everything in my eyes. He was super smart and good with music. His English was impeccable. You could say I fell in love with him, but I never spoke to him and he had no idea who I was.
So secret admirer I was.
I talked to my uncle about it and he always encouraged me to talk to him first but I was not in Korea for romance or fun. I was there for my family's sake back home.
Time skip
I walked into class and sat in my usual spot. I put my hood up and started doing my work so I could leave as fast as possible. Everyone started filling in and the professor gave us what we needed for the day then told us we could leave when we finished.
"(Y/N) if you are done do you think you can stick around so I can speak with you after class. You can go to the empty room across the hall and read, but I need to speak to you when class is over." I nodded my head as I panicked because everyone was looking at me.
"She understands our language?" I heard a peer whisper to another surprised.
"Well duh dumbass. How do you think she is fighting for the top of the class with me and how do you think she does her work?" Yeonjun snapped back with the most sarcastic tone ever.
I kept my head down and walked to the empty classroom across the hall. I took a deep breath and sat down taking my favorite book out and putting my headphones on.
10 mins later
I looked at my phone and I had 2 minutes before class ended. I put my headphone neatly back into the little container I had for it and flung my book bag over my shoulders to walk back into the classroom. I waited until my professor was done talking and everyone cleared out but I got trapped in my book.
When I heard the door close I looked in the window to see the professor talking with Yeonjun. I was curious. I know eavesdropping is not the best moral decision but something in my body was telling me to listen.
"Yeonjun do you think you can try to get (Y/N) out of her shell? I am running out of things to give her for homework and classwork since she goes through them so quickly. I am also running out of good books to recommend to her. She reads them in 2-3 days and I gave her thick books. Her uncle calls me to get updates but I can only tell him what obviously you see in class too. So please help me out." I heard the professor plead with Yeonjun as I rolled my eyes
I had a bad habit of bottling my emotions inside and never doing anything about it since I literally stopped talking, 2 years ago.
"Look ma'am... you don't have to beg me to do it. I am willing to do it with nothing in return. She really seems like she needs a friend, but I will also not force the issue because people will trust on their own time and they will adjust on their own time. I will give it a try, but I don't promise I can break her out of her shell. I want her to do it because she wants to not because she is forced to." I bit the inside of my cheek when I heard those words.
I knocked on the door to make my presence known. I walked over to the professor and stood there looking at her waiting for her to talk.
"(Y/N) this is Yeonjun, Yeonjun this is (Y/N). I want to pair you up for next semester's project that will take the whole semester but I will let you two start early since I can't even keep up with both of your brains." I nod politely and turn to Yeonjun and nod.
"Um... do you speak?" Yeonjun questioned cautiously.
"She does, she just hasn't for 2 years. She will only talk to her uncle and her uncle literally had to give birth to a conversation with her." She chuckled, patting Yeonjun's back and giving us the syllabus for the project we will start. "You do not need to come to class anymore until next semester so spends as much time together to do this. I literally gave you two the hardest one. Good luck and I will see you in 2 months." We both excused ourselves and left the room.
I was nervous to be around him. He was stunning in every way possible and way taller than he seemed. As we walked out of the building I dropped my book on the ground.
"The Great Gatsby? That's a classic. It looks worn down so it must be your favorite. I don't know much about the American dream as I have never been, but I get it. You want something for your future your parents never had; they wish they could always give you. I just wish it was real." My face completely dropped in astonishment.
The Great Gatsby is classic American literature and hard to follow if you don't read between the lines. The fact that he has read and understood it as deeply as you do was incredible.
I nodded my head and smiled a little but got flustered and looked away from him quickly.
"So you have any plans for the rest of the day?" He asked politely. I shook my head no then gave him a look to say goodbye as I took my Keys out and walked to my car. I stood outside my Neon green charger opening the door and putting my bag in first. I saw him watching me as I sighed internally. I walked back over to him and put my left hand out and gave him my phone with my right hand. He smiled and gave me his phone as I put my name and number in.
He said his goodbyes as he walked over to a car and got in the passenger seat. I got in my car and went home.
