~~Two Months & Two Weeks Later~
I've made it, so far. The empire is doing pretty well under my and General Hoffenheim supervising. But that good news didn't make the fact that I didn't know what was going on during the deal made it much much harder to keep my hopes up. Thankfully, when I felt like breaking down and just not work because of all the uncertainty in my mind, General Hoffenheim took over part of the job.
Aunt Chicha and Uncle Pacha could tell that I missed the Emperor. I told them about Kuzco's work trip, but they didn't realize that I wasn't just missing him. There was also an epitome of darkness consuming my very mind on the precariousness of whether or not my heart will break in two weeks when Kuzco comes back.
I was walking around the market, buying the groceries for General Hoffenheim and me to eat today, as we will be pulling an all-nighter to wait for the signal that the Emperor is on his way home. Just some fruits, cheese, and carbs. I'd love a carb load tonight. I'd finally come to my favourite stand, the one with all of the Pionono and Churros.
"A chocolate pionono for me and General Hoffenheim, please," I asked, moving my wicker basket closer to my neck so it wouldn't slide down. "Thank you."
"No need to pay ma'am," he said, as he handed me the pionono. I gave him an incredulous look.
"As much as I love free food, why?" I asked, politely.
"Because a friend of yours already paid for it."
"Which friend?" I asked.
"Me."
I turned around and twenty feet away from me was Kuzco. He smirked at me. I bit the inside of my lip and smiled, trying to hold back a laugh. It didn't work.
"Permission to run up and hug you, you highness," I asked, smiling widely now.
"I'd be upset if you didn't. After all I've been gone for nearly three months," he answered. I, suddenly, dropped my basket, ran up & hugged him. My arms around his neck and his arms went around my waist. I smirked into his chest and inhaled some of his scent that I had sorely missed.
Kuzco, being the cheeky son of a bastard, said, "Did you really miss me that much?"
"You were gone for two months and two weeks, I have a good reason," I said, looking back at him and rolling my eyes. "Speaking of time, why are you back early? How did you get back early?"
"I closed the deal and came back wanting to surprise you."
"How did you know about the booth?"
"I asked Pacha about it yesterday," he answered. I stepped back from him and tried not to make eye contact so as to not increase my blush.
"Thanks."
"No problem, (Y/n)."
"So, did the chief have a daughter?" My heart was pounding. Very loudly.
"No. He did have a sister, though. He did offer me to her, but she was seven years older than me."
"You engaged to anyone else?"
"Nope," he answered, popping the p at the end of the word.
"You married someone and didn't invite me?"
"No. Did you?" He asked. I laughed and smiled. So far, I'm relieved.
"No," I laughed, shaking my head. "How did you close the deal then?"
"Do you have no faith in me?" I laughed, and threw my head back a little.
"I haven't heard from you specifically in over two months. I want to know what happened," I implied.
