It was a cold winter afternoon, you were currently sitting in your office. You were tired- desperate to leave and go home. Your hands were tangled in your hair and your head was bowed, your eyes were closed trying to stop the tears from falling.
You already had a terrible morning. Your alarm woke you up late for work and as you were walking towards the subway station, a guy bumped into you and spilled all of his hot coffee on you.
He didn't even bother on asking if you were okay or at least give you a napkin to clean yourself up just a bit. He just left you there... drenched with a brown coffee stain on your favorite skirt.
Your favorite skirt, the one you were so proud of buying with your first paycheck. It was ruined now. There was no way you could get that nasty stain out...You were all caught up in your thoughts; when all of a sudden your boss rushed in your office with a pack of paperwork in his hands. 'Great', you thought... 'more paperwork'.
"Hey, Y/n! How you've been?" He said with an enormous smile, he seemed like he was in a rush. You raised you head up, clasped your hands in your lap, and you tried your best to match his smile. You were still a bit startled by how fast he ran into your office.
"Hello sir, I've been great, thank you." You were hoping that he wasn't here to give you that extra stack in his hands to add to your pile of work in the corner of your desk.
"Ah, that's great y/n! You know today's my wife's birthday and I just wanted to celebrate with her...maybe take her out for dinner. Ah, that's why I'm here actually, do you mind taking these and filing them for me?" He said as he tapped the stack of paperwork in his hand, motioning you to take them.
"Um, sir, I actually-"
"Oh, y/n, you don't mind right! I'm sure you don't!" He said with an even bigger smile as he put the paperwork in your hands. He started to walk backwards towards your door. He turned the door handle and walked out while saying, "Thank you, y/n! I'm glad to have a secretary like you! You're the best!" The door slammed afterwards, you could still hear how excited he was and how he said goodbye to your coworkers.
You stood there, with the stupid smile on your face. Tears threatening to fall. Now you had a ton of work due. It was Friday, and you just wanted to enjoy your weekend. You wanted to go home.
You thought, 'Maybe... I should take some of the paperwork home, and the change of scenery could help.'
So, that's what you did. You rushed to get your jacket and your purse. You grabbed some of the paperwork and put it in a folder. You walked out of your office and looked around to see if any of your colleagues were still there. Only a few were there, and they seemed like they were getting ready to leave. You didn't want to stay any longer.
So, you walked towards the elevator. Once you were inside you looked at the numbers as they decreased. Finally, the elevator dinged. You walked out and pushed the door to the building. Once you were outside, you took a deep breath, your lungs expanded and you released the breath of air. The sun was setting and you figured to start walking before it starts to darken.
Your bones were exhausted, you felt like you were melting. You took short steps and enjoyed the wind that blew through your hair. You walked towards the subway station and walked down the steps. Once you got inside the subway, you looked around for a seat, you decided the one farthest in the corner was ideal.
You didn't want anyone to start a conversation with you or look at you if you started to cry on accident. You walked towards the seat and sat down. You tightened your arms around the folder of paperwork you carried and bowed your head while closing your eyes.
