The first key

Chapter two

Alexis heard faint voices talking in the background.

"Well what do we do now? Why is she unconscious? Is that normal?" asked a boy's voice.

"Yes, Jake. She'll be fine. She's probably just unconscious from her first portaling," said the girl's voice.

"But Izzy, she looks so pale."

"Oh my god, Jake. Shut up! I'm trying to contact Micah, so he can get a team here to pick us up."
Alexis slowly opened her eyes to see a boy leaning over her. The boy had short, dark brown hair, and silver flecked eyes. He looked to be about Alexis's age with a high jawline, he was not necessarily muscular but he wasn't chubby either. The girl, Izzy, had the same dark hair as her brother but hers was woven in a long braid down her back, with the same silver eyes. Alexis assumed they were twins by the striking resemblance to each other they both had. Izzy was about the same height as Alexis, she looked like someone who Alexis generally wouldn't have been friends with back when she lived in the village, the kind of snotty stuck up perfect girl who was good at everything.

"Izzy, she's waking up," called the boy, Jake.

"Don't try to sit up," Izzy called. "You are going to have a killer headache and your leg wound got reopened, but there is a medic on the way." Of course Alexis tried to sit up. Her head felt like it was being stabbed by a million tiny knives.

"I told you not to sit up," Izzy said, walking over with a cup of water.

"She listens about as well as I do," said Jake smirking. "How are you feeling?"

"Like I got stepped on by an elephant multiple times and my leg hurts like hell," Alexis replied, taking the cup from Izzy, and taking a drink.

"Who the hell are you and what do you want with me?" Alexis asked, wobbling as she tried to stand up, pain shooting up from her leg.

"Careful," said Jake, rushing to steady her. "You probably shouldn't be up. You'll feel a little weird after your first portaling, but that will go away pretty quickly. But your leg doesn't look good. What happened?"

"It's nothing,"Alexis said, trying to tug her pant leg down farther. "But seriously, why am I here and who in the hell are you?" she asked as she sat back down, deciding it was the safest course of action.

"All I can tell you is that we are the resistance. Micah should explain the rest." Izzy replied. "I'm Izzy and this is my twin brother Jake. We work with the resistance."

"I'm not going anywhere with you," Alexis said, scooting away from the twins."

"Well, where are you going to go? Back to the government so they can continue to run tests on you and treat you like an animal? And your leg injury, they didn't even treat it?" Jake asked.

Izzy sighed, "Jake."

"What?" Asked Jake defiantly. "You saw how they treated her. They had her locked up and the stuff they fed her even the dogs wouldn't eat."

"Were you spying on me?" Alexis asked, feeling violated.

"We were getting the lay of the land. We have been planning to break you out for a while."
Alexis's mind reeled. Who was this Micah person and why did he want her enough to break her out of the most secure military prison in all of Coreal and beyond? Did they want to use her as a weapon like the government did or did they want her for some other reason that was equally as terrifying to think about.

Alexis was so lost in these questions that she didn't notice the dark shapes growing steadily larger until she heard Izzy say, "Ok look I know this is weird us kidnapping you then asking you to trust us so if you want to go,go.There's our ride and if you want to you can come with us. Nobody will stop you from leaving but if you want to talk to Micah and figure out why he wanted us to break you out then come with us."
