"Wake up May." Mom whispered.
"What!?" I groaned, burying my head under my pillow.
That didn't help. My pillow was thin and did nothing to block out sound.
"May. We had a deal." Mom scolded, taking the pillow of my head.
I groaned
Mom opened the curtains and light spilled into the room.
I groaned again.
"Up! Up! Up!" My Mom said, pulling back the blankets
I stumbled out of bed.
"Look what I made for you!" Mom said, revealing a stunning strapless teal dress with tiny silver sequins.
"It's beautiful Mom." I breathed
My Mom smiled and pushed me into the bathroom and handed me my new dress.
I smiled and closed the door.
Soon I came out.
Jolie gasped. Mom looked close to tears.
I usually wore my chocolate brown hair in a bun. But I decided it was a special occasion. Now it was laying across my shoulders, the waves looking magical. I pinned a silver swan clip that Dad had given me for my 14th birthday.
"Wow. May, you look........ stunning." Jolie said
"The swans and dress bring out your eyes." Mom sniffled
I smiled
Dad came up the stairs.
"Am I intruding something ladi-" He stopped short when he saw me.
His eyes too becoming misty.
"Dad! Thousands of girls are entering. Only 35 get picked. And if I get in - very slight chances I will -, 35 other women are going for the same man." I laughed, twirling my dress
"Mhm." Dad said, still lost in thought
"Ok. Are we going to enter?" I asked, way to cheery for myself
"Yes. Yes!" My mom said, gathering herself up
"How about you make her hair into some style, Olivia?" Dad asked
Mom smiled
"No! It's not my wedding!" I exclaimed
Jolie laughed.
"Let's go." I sighed
Mom smiled and we climbed in the car.
Soon we arrived.
The line was long. Very long. Dirty girls were their. Beautiful girls were there. A lot of girls were there.
"Let's go." I said
We got in line and I realized I'd be here for at the least an hour.
~~~~~An Hour and a Half Later~~~~
A girl behind me nervously wiped her hands on her pale yellow dress.
I turned around and she cowered back.
"I'm May." I said, offering my hand
She nervously took it
"I won't hurt you." I said softly
She straightened up a bit.
"I'm Emma." She said
"You remind me of someone." I murmured
"May! She might be competition." Mom hissed in my ear
I rolled my eyes.
"Do you live in the area? I haven't seen you around." I asked
Emma froze.
"Emma?" I asked
"Yeah! Uh, no. I live, in.... Um..."
"Next!" The man taking pictures called
"Go!" Mom shoved me forwards
"Stand here please." He said
I stood on the blue feet on the ground.
"Name?" He asked
"May."
"Name and last name" He said, clearly annoyed
"May Harley." I mumbled
"Speak up." He said
"May Harley." I said louder
The picture man rolled his eyes and counted down.
I thought about the time where Yale Kleep kissed me. I laughed to myself and the camera man caught it.
"Next!" He yelled
I was ushered off the stage and the next girl came. The strange thing was, it wasn't Emma.
I looked around but was swept away by Mom and Jolie.
"You looked amazing!" Jolie squealed in the car
"Absolutely radiant." Mom gushed
I blushed and rolled my eyes.
"I can't wait to get back home." I sighed, staring out the window.
Mom sighed.
We sat in silence the rest of the drive.
Dad was at the entrance. He beamed.
"How'd it go?" He asked, Clay ran to mom.
Clay was shy. Not a people person.
"May?" Dad asked
"Sorry. It went good." I apologized
"When do we get to see the picture?" Dad asked
"Mom took a picture on her phone." Jolie said, smirking
I grumbled about annoying siblings.
Mom handed Dad the phone and Dad's gaze brightened.
"Radiant." He breathed
"Exactly!" Mom said
At the same time I whined "Dad."
