The overall reception of fifth and final book in the selection series has been less than satisfactory. Many would say this is due to it feeling rushed and I dare say the majority of Selectioners felt Eadlyn ended up with the wrong person. In this alternate ending which jumps in right after Hale leaves in Chapter 29 but right before she goes to propose to Kile, Eadlyn gets a visit from her mother that sets her thoughts on a course she realizes she should have been on all along.

"You may be a Prince, but you're my prince. You'll always be my Prince Charming." Melody Notes, disowned by the only family she has left, ends up in the castle. Adopted by the Ledgers at 8 years old, she developed an unbreakable bond with Kaden. What happens when Mel realizes she's falling in love with a prince. Will they live happily ever after? Or will Kaden forever remain an an attainable Prince Charming. ~ I changed their ages so that Kaden and Melody are both 16 during Eadlyns selection because I thought 14 was a little too young. I also mention movies and books that a popular now, but may or may not exist in the Selection world. ~ I do not own any of the characters except for the ones I invented (Melody, Liz, Xander). "Eadlyn, do...do you want a distraction right now?" Kile always knew what I wanted before I seemed to know it. I nodded my head and while my head was still bobbing Kile's lips were pressed to mine. The Heir was such an amazing book and there were sparks flying between Kile and Eadlyn through the whole thing. I couldn't help but finish their story.
