"Okay, Adira. I need to ask you a few questions," Annabeth inquired.
I raised an eyebrow but nodded nonetheless.
"Okay, first, did you see the... the thing back there?" she asked.
"Oh, the Greek-myth-sort of monster? Yeah, that's what I was running from."
Annabeth and Percy looked surprised, but she continued, "You know it's Greek?" When I nodded, she asked, "So you know of Greek gods and creatures and Greek mythology?"
"Well, yeah. A little bit. I studied it in school, plus read a few books on it. Plus, it's not that hard to identify that sort of thing when it's been chasing you for the last six blocks. Apparently some of that stuff is real, considering the fact that the monster tried to kill me. But it's kinda cool, I suppose," I answered.
Annabeth looked relieved. "Well, that's gonna make things a lot easier," Percy muttered to Annabeth. She nodded.
"It's gonna make what a lot easier?" I questioned. The fact that I was almost a monster-snack?
"What if I told you that all the Greek myths and gods were real? Like, Olympus is above the Empire State Building?" Percy cautiously asked.
I shrugged. "Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised. After the big-bat-creature thingy, and some of the other things I've seen... yeah, it would make sense."
This was getting weird. Well, it was already weird. So this is getting weirder.
Percy and Annabeth exchanged glances. "So you'd believe me if I told you that the Greek gods have kids? And... that we're some of them?" Percy ventured. Annabeth elbowed him, supposedly for revealing the last part.
"Wait, you guys are children of the gods? Like, you're demigods? That's so cool!" I exclaimed. Then, I paused. What could this mean? The fact that I've seen some weird things, and that they're talking to me right now, and telling me all this... does that mean that... that I'm like them?
Probably.
"Does that mean that I'm a demigod? Like... like you?" I ventured.
Annabeth nodded. "Yes. At least we believe so. We'll have to take you to camp and show you to Chiron..." Annabeth quieted somewhat, her stormy eyes not meeting mine. "If you pass through the border, we'll know."
"Pass what border? Camp what? Chiron? Isn't he, what, a centaur from Greek mythology? Right?" I rambled.
Annabeth nodded again. "Chiron is the head of our camp. You'll have to see for yourself."
"Um, okay," I replied, then decided to ask another question that's been on my mind. "Annabeth, how do you disappear, like you did earlier?"
"Oh, that?" With a glance at Percy, she smirked, and pulled a Yankee's baseball cap out from her back pocket. She put it on and vanished.
"Whoa," I remarked as she reappeared, cap in her hand. She slipped it back into her pocket.
We all began walking, me following Percy and Annabeth. They seemed to know where they were going. Well, I hoped they knew where they were going.
We soon arrived at a apartment complex with a small Prius parked in front of one of the buildings.
Percy led us inside, to a nice, cozy apartment with a wide living room and a cute kitchen next to it. A pregnant women, who I assumed was Percy's mom, looked up from her position on the couch when she heard us come in.
"Percy!" She stood, her arms outstretched to hug her son. "And Annabeth," she hugged her too.
"Hello, there," she said to me.
"Hey," I answered, wondering if this lady was going to hug me too. She didn't.
"Mom, this is Adira, and Adira, this is my mom, Sally," Percy introduced us.
"Welcome, Adira. Would you like some cookies?" Sally asked, grabbing a tray of blue-colored cookies from the kitchen.
I sat on Sally's couch, munching on one of her delicious cookies as Percy and Annabeth discussed something with Sally in the hallway.
I strained my ears, attempting to overhear their conversation, but all I heard was my name and something about a prophecy. I hope they weren't talking about what I think they're talking about.
Finally, the three of them entered back into the living room. Despite the fact that I don't know what they were discussing, they all seemed mad at me. I hope I'm not in trouble for something I may or may not have done.
"Are you ready to go to Camp Half-Blood?"
