Part 1
We're now at the airport together with my brother's friends. Of course I know Tyler but there is this girl who I had no idea whoever she is. Although they've been explaining to me, ever since we gathered up on our way here that they were all friends since pre-school.
"How come I haven't seen her since then?" I whispered to Tyler who's on my right side.
The Ella girl is a little bit away from us because she's talking with someone through a phone call.
"Now you see her," Tyler said in vain. I rolled my eyes, annoyed as I didn't get the answer that I wanted. Tyler's just looking at the departure gate, probably waiting for Matt.
"Can you at least answer accurately to my question?" I said with a bit of a sarcastic tone.
He peeks at me for a second before looking back onto the departure gate. I thought he wouldn't speak to me anymore but he just did afterwards.
"You were always out whenever we hang out in your house. Matt never wanted Ella to come with us whenever we picked you up from wherever you were," he said again in his boring-est tone but at least he answered my question.
That kinda makes up for everything.
I thought.
But he said something again that makes me more confused.
"But to be honest, you have already met her before."
I frowned and shook my head. "No."
"No, I'm not asking. I'm saying it. You met her before."
"Really?" I asked in numb.
"Yeah."
I tried to remember a moment in my life that I've seen her face but I really can't remember. I just shrugged it off.
We waited for thirty minutes more but Matt has not arrived yet... and I am so hungry already. So Tyler went off for a moment to get some food and I was left with Ella. She seemed awkward to speak to me, though. As if I would eat her alive.
"How was Tyler with you?" She asked out of a sudden. She's not awkward this time, thank god. "I mean, he's not the caring type. So I'm worried if he's treating you right like how taking good care should be done."
"Well..." I didn't answer immediately and thought about how Tyler actually takes care of me. "Yeah, he's not the caring type. He only follows what I say— he only does what I ask about and doesn't bother to do more. I like how long his patience is... like, yeah he's annoyed and he's making it obvious but...you know? He's still nice." I chuckled, admiring how Tyler treats me no matter good or not.
"Both of you seemed to have gotten a little closer in just a short period of time." She smiles genuinely. "I'm kinda jealous."
I frown. "Jealous? Why? You guys have been friends since you were kids."
"Ty is the type of person who is difficult to get along with." I actually want to oppose her for that. Or is it just me who doesn't consider Ty as that. "Being a friend to Ty doesn't mean anything more. It's just like that. Nothing rare and special to deal with... not like you."
Before Matt left for Florida, both Tyler and I were total strangers. I just know him because he's Matt's friend and I am Matt's sister. We would just have a talk whenever he's the one who has found me from wherever I was, because I am fond of traveling into some other places around the city. Aside from Ty being the introvert that he is, he really has never been my cup of tea. So it is really exceptional for us to be in this level of closeness.
Even though there's no real sure what relationship is going on between us.
Wait. Why am I even thinking what kind of relationship we have?
Of course we're acquainted.
"Uhmm, actually... Can I give a thought?" She nodded. "If a person is hard to befriend and it happens that you become friends with them, I think that's that rare thing. Imagine being with someone who is picky with people and that people just let you into his life. It means you got a special place in that people's heart."
Ella being like this gives me the hunch that she likes Ty. I mean, if a person is looking forward to more attention and unique interaction towards other people is really you would think of something's going on within.
"Well, what about now that Matt's coming home, what relationship would you guys end up?" She just changed the topic, perhaps scared that something might open up.
"Well we already did talk about that. We'd still hang out sometimes," I confidently say because it is what really Tyler and I swore to each other.
I actually think Ella has the feelings that there is something going on between me and Tyler which I think she's scared of.
Like, us, ending up being a couple?
That's a big fat NO!
When Ella didn't speak anymore, later I started looking for Ty and exactly he showed up.
I am just so hungry.
"Where the fuck did you go? You took awhile!" I nag while taking the food in his hand. He also seems out of breath. Maybe because he ran back.
"Sure you did know that there's a lot of people," he said while panting but still sounds calm. I just shrugged my shoulders off and started eating burgers. It's not Subway but it'll do anyway.
Ty also brought something for him and Ella but it's not the same food as mine. I just didn't mind them.
Meanwhile, Matt finally arrived. He's with another girl but later walks in a different path to Matt. They both maybe met on the flight, going here.
I smile so wide when our eyes finally meet. And grasp him a tight hug as soon as he reaches us. Although we weren't really fond of clinging, I admit, I missed his warmth. Well, who wouldn't, if a person that's really close to you has gone even just a short period of time?
"Oh God, I missed you so much, Ducky," he says. I immediately hit him on his arm for calling me Ducky.
"I told you not to call me Ducky, urgh!" I groaned in the middle of our hugs.
He laughed and patted my head as we splitted.
He went to his friends next. Matt and Tyler just nodded to each other and greeted each other like "hey, man, wazzup?" As if they didn't see each other for long. Just like that.
After that, Ty went to me while Matt and Ella were talking. "What dinner do you want?" He asked.
I narrowed my eyes and tilt my head a little, thinking of something to eat. Or maybe somewhere. I'm in the mood for a food trip somewhere down the road. "Al Mac's diner? I want some Patty Melt Grilled Cheese on Portuguese Sweet Bread," I say delightfully.
Sigh escaped from his lips as he nodded. He looked at the two birds chirping and beckoning his head, inviting to leave.
