Kusachi and his younger brother, Hisashi, were orphaned at a young age. Being the older brother, Kusa had to take care of himself and his brother, whom he despised. They spent their childhood attending separate schools to stay away from each other as much as possible.

⎯𝙏𝙀𝙀𝙉𝘼𝙂𝙀 𝙔𝙀𝘼𝙍𝙎
As a teenager, Kusa had once again attended a separate school from Hisashi. Luckily for Kusa, he developed an Ultimate talent, and was granted access into Hope's Peak Academy. He knew how popular Danganronpa was, and wanted to be on TV so badly, he would become so famous! He was aware of the risk of life and death, but he didn't care. Not even Hisashi could stop him from auditioning.
