Samuel was walking down the street quickly, following Zack and Hart to wear they said all the best loot was. Samuel stopped and tensed up when Zack stopped all of the sudden, sniffing the wind as if he could smell something other than the constant stench of death. The dead surrounded them, but that is not what stopped the group just then; to the east, came a high pitched shriek, along with the smell of burning flesh. Zack looked to Sam and Hart, gesturing for them to get behind him.

They both swiftly moved to follow his orders, Hart wielding a grotusque rifle, made somehow from the bones of the fallen, and Samuel drawing his sleek Katana. Zack lifted up his Vulcan, ready to blast the host of the awful noise if it appeared. What they saw next surprised them all.

Down the street, a hulking burning beast ran toward them with amazing speed. As it got closer, they were able to make out the features of what may of once been a beautiful woman, now twisted and mutated to become a giant nearly twenty feet tall, with tentacles just as long sprouting from it’s back, all the while, burning everything it touched.

When it closed the distance between the group and itself to half a block, Zack let loose, pelting the monster with hundreds of bullets before it reached them. Suddenly, it was on top of them, and swung a large tentacle to the ground at the trio. The all dodged out of the way, but were then split up, and the beast went after Zack. By this point, Hart had also started firing on the beast, but even with that, the creature seemed uninjured.

Zack kept backing away from the burning mass, pouring ammo into it too no avail. Zack then dropped the vulcan as he tripped backward over a curb, cracking his head against the sidewalk, knocking him out cold. The creature then let loose a sinister noise, similar to a laugh, at the sight of it’s fallen prey. Samuel realized that Hart was too far away to help Zack, and that if he didn’t do something, Zack would be crushed.

The monster swung it’s tentacle up, then down on top of Zack. Samuel jumped in front of the tentacle, throwing his katana up to block it. The katana pushed the tentacle far enough to keep it from landing on Samuel and Zack, but the force of the tentacle still pushed Samuel to the ground, and shattered the katana blade from the hilt. The monster shrieked in anger at the interruption to it’s victory, giving Samuel enough time to grab an M82A2 off of Zack’s person, aim, and fire a 12.7mm round through the creature’s left eyes, and Samuel watched as it tumbled to the ground.

A few hours later they were barricaded in a home about a block south of the now dead monster, Zack was awake with a blasting headache, and Samuel sat with the remains of his katana, along with the M82A2. When Zack had regained consciousness, he told Samuel he could have the gun, since he didn’t have another weapon, and Zack fully intended to reached their destination.

Samuel was still unsure though, since that dreadful night at the labs, he had always used a bladed weapon, whether it be a knife, axe, or sword. But, he realized, he had no time to dwell on the past, he had a destination to reach, and until then, he would work with what he had. With that thought in mind, Samuel retrieved a bag from his pack, placed the sword fragments and hilt inside it, and put the bag next to his journal. They kept pushing then, trying to make it to their final destination... Fairview City Jail.
