This story is based off of The Secret History by Donna Tartt. It's not exactly imperative you read that first but you should, the book is amazing. Disclaimer every character is flawed, even the main character. I loved that about The Secret History and wanted to do it as well.
Disclaimer: the MC is black and discriminated against but very passive about it and that's not really the main focus of the story. (I don't remember if I said so specifically, but you can tell the MC is in a marginalized group) I'm just saying I won't be fighting with anyone in the comments about their passivity. Minorities in elitist schools would often suppress themselves in fear of seeming like bothersome. I felt like a minority seeking friendship in the main group would be the exactly the kind of person to subconsciously suppress themselves to fall in favor.
