The dreaded time of the day had finally arrived, as the dismissal bell rings across the halls of the school. Students flood out of their classrooms, eager to carry on to more valued events of the day, which included being anywhere but here.
It wasn't the same for me.
School is the only place that made me feel like the I was doing something right, away from the apprehension I feel when at home. Now that's where I will be going.
Yay.
I get up from my desk, once the commotion had died down, and make my way to my locker, making sure to glance around see if the coast was clear. To be utterly honest, the scene that occurred earlier today had me on guard.
"I've killed someone before."
That can't be true, can it? But then again, he told me to watch my back..
An unintended shudder runs through my body, the same time as someone touches me on my shoulder. I clamp my hand over my mouth as a yelp makes it's way out, and I turn around to face Danny with my eyes narrowed.
He chuckles, catching the book that would've been intimate with the floor if his fingers hadn't grasped the hardcover binding before it reached the ground. "What's got you spooked?"
I straightened myself from the odd I surrender position I was in, and shoot a sheepish smile to a few strange looks I was receiving from wary teenagers. "Oh, uh," I take the book from his hand and shrug, slamming the locker, "I bumped into this guy and he was just a tad scary,"
"Tad enough to make you yell?" He was smirking, and I was getting annoyed that found my fear humorous. "Please elaborate."
I rolled my eyes biting my lip for a second. "Shut up, he was, like really tall okay? And he sorta threatened to kill me."
"He what?"
"He's like," I cleared my throat, and attempted to mimic Wall's deep voice, "I've killed someone before. And after I kneed him in the chopsticks-"
A loud laughed, interrupted my storytelling and I shot him an irritated look.
He shook with laughter, biting his lip in an attempt to stop, to which no avail. "I- you--"
"Breathe, you incompetent fool."
He did as told. "I can't imagine you even being to reach that high,"
"He wasn't even that tall, I--"
"I was implying that you're short,"
"And you're rude. Anyways, he had me against the locker--"
"That's kinky."
"Danny!" I whined, annoyed by his unnecessary input, "Anyways, right after I escaped, he told me to watch my back. So, that's kind of like a threat."
Danny leaned against my locker, arms crossed, "Well, what did he look like, besides tall? I can probably hunt him down."
I shrugged, "Dark hair, leather jacket, oh, and I think his eyes change color."
He straightened slightly, "He told you the exact words that he's tried to kill someone?"
"Mhmm."
"Ace Carter." He pushed himself to a standing position and beckoned me to follow him.
"Wait, who?"
"Ace Carter. Locker room talk; he has a criminal record."
"That's the guy in my Biology class that's always ditching. Maybe he's just a harmless teenager with a crazy imagination." I shrugged, kicking a small pebble to the other end of the school parking lot as we made our way to Danny's bike.
