incident two: technique practice

In any other free time that Y/N had outside of studies and any field work that they had to go to with the rest of their classmates, they spent that time honing their technique on the training grounds. Yes, usually any sort of technique would manifest around the age of five or six and then practiced on throughout anyone's life, but practice at any time is always good nonetheless. It was a weekend too, so hopefully no one would bother them as they honed their technique.

Pressing the tips of their index fingers and pinkies together while the rest folded into their palms, they silently summoned their shikigami. Within a surge of cursed energy, the figure stepped into reality while their tails fanned out in a flourish. The L/N Family ran a technique solely around the ideas of fox fire and the connection to the spirits, and despite the technique using an infusion of cursed energy and fox fire it was called The Soul Fire Technique due to the deeply rooted connection to the family of sorcerers. Each sorcerer in the L/N family was granted a fox spirit or a kitsune as their guide and essentially another source of energy for the user to amplify their cursed energy. Through the user's life they must maintain a spiritually strong connection to it, and failure of doing so results in the user turning into a curse as their soul gets slowly devoured by the spirit. Y/N didn't understand why their family would ever subject themselves to something so dangerous... Though they've always believed in the ideal of 'higher the risk the higher payout.'

The fox spirit slowly circled Y/N as if it was waiting for its command, E/C eyes followed the ethereal creature as they took in a deep breath with their hands still together in its summoning gesture. Despite it being the dirt, they took a seat on the ground before crossing their legs and letting their hands rest on their knees, eyes closing gently. Y/N decided to start off with some soul strengthening exercises with their shikigami before going into anything drastic. The kitsune seemed to understand what they wanted to do first as it stepped away from them, staring at the human. It essentially was a time to meditate for Y/N, which was something that they didn't do too often since they had come to Jujutsu High, but highly recommended by their family to do.

A flame ignited beside the spirit before a second one had appeared at its other side, floating there in anticipation. After a short pause, the flames quickly shot towards Y/N. Their brow creased slightly and as quickly as the fire was launched, it disappeared as if it had hit a protective screen that enveloped them. That's exactly what happened. It would relatively continue like this with varying sizes of fox fires and the distance they were being thrown at, and Y/N was doing pretty good even to the point where they would keep their eyes open to watch the flames get closer and closer. At least, until something else hit them in the head that wasn't fox fire and destroyed their concentration. There could only be one other person that would do that to them.

"Oops! Sorry."

The training had to come to a stop as Y/N glanced over to see what had hit them in the head... It was a tiny pebble, small enough to not do too much damage but definitely big enough to be annoying. They frowned as they turned their head even more to see that it was no other than Gojo Satoru, and that dumb grin that he had on his features. The kitsune returned to Y/N's side as they started getting up from the ground, dusting off the dirt from their legs.

"You and I both know that it wasn't an accident." Y/N said with a slight growl to their tone, only getting a shrug and a tilt of his head from the white haired male.

"If you weren't sitting there in the dirt it wouldn't have hit you in the head, silly brat." Satoru even had his hands deep in his pockets to further try to show that he didn't do anything of an ill deed towards them, but knowing all of the shit he's done to them all they can do is suspect him.

"Why are you here, aren't you hanging out with Geto and Ieiri or something?"

"Nah, Suguru went into town for his own business and Shoko's busy."

"... But why are you here then, you literally can be anywhere else except you decided to choose the training grounds."

"I might want to practice my techniques as well, cause you know... I want to get stronger too." There was that tone again in Satoru's voice. The you're weak and always will be, tone. Y/N's brows furrowed in irritation, their emotion even showing a bit in their shikigami as they stared down the male.

"Then go practice far away from me. I was here first anyways."

"Hm... No, I usually practice right in this spot. My technique would break equipment anyways." The tall male steps closer to the H/C haired other, clearly looming over them with that shit eating grin donning his lips.

"You move." He states coldly, even shoving their shoulder back which causes Y/N to stumble back slightly. Despite how tall and lean this boy was, he was definitely strong nonetheless. Y/N gritted their teeth, lips in the form of a snarl.

"Fuck you." They hissed, getting an amused chuckle from Satoru, his toothy grin turning into a smug smile.

"You'd like that though, wouldn't you?"

Oh that's it.

The kitsune bares its teeth before jumping towards the blue eyed boy with fox fire directed towards him, though just like Y/N's training reps the fire hits a barrier and even the shikigami is unable to touch him. Satoru hums to himself before scoffing at the attempt of trying to attack him, his sky filled eyes shifting from the spirit before lowering towards Y/N.

"Wow, you must be really mad to act out like that huh? You know if you wanted to fight me that bad you can have that opportunity during the Kyoto sister school event. Rather, if you're strong enough." He raises a brow as the corner of his lip turns up even more. The fox spirit settled down due to knowing its attempt was proven futile, though it still was prominent that it was very angry and still wanted to devour a soul like his. Y/N remained silent, still sending the tall male a glare filled with daggers. He clucked his tongue before giving them another shove to their shoulder.

"Go on, Y/N-chan. Move along and give me my space, I need the whole area." No matter what Y/N could do, there was really no point in arguing with this guy. Why did they consider him as a friend again? Muttering curses to themselves, they finally trudged off of the training grounds with their fox spirit in tow. There was always another time to practice their technique, they guessed.

...

Satoru's smirk remained on his features as he watched Y/N leave the area, clearly hearing their grumbles of disapproval for him. He couldn't help it, he needed a lot of space to really try anything out, especially if it was coming to his Cursed Technique Reversal: Red... Which was something that he was still trying to figure out. So far, he hasn't gotten anything from it just yet even if there were times where he thought it was going to work. But nope, it went kaput. Silence hung in the air, and already he was getting tired of it as he heaved a large sigh. Adjusting his circle shades with a light hum, he headed off of the training grounds. Maybe he'll try to practice this technique tomorrow.
