Me and Libby watch, giggling as Glen dialed the phone. It was after school and we were all hanging out at Libby's house. I had changed into a grey, pink and purple shirt paired with some blue jeans.

"I can't believe his mother let him come over here." Libby said looking at my nails.

I smiled mischievously "Right. Well, she didn't, exactly." Libby shot me a look.

Glen shoved a cassette into Libby's Ghetto Blaster. "See Libby, I got this cousin who lives near the airport, that it's okay for me to stay with, right? So I got this sound effects tape from Tod and-"

He answered the phone. "Hello, Mom?" He pressed play. "Yeah, out here at Barry's."

A jet plane that sounded like a 747 coming in for a landing began to make itself heard on the tape as Glen moved the machine closer to the phone.

"Huh? Yeah, noisy as usual. Glad we don't live here, huh? Yeah, Aunt Noona says hello." He spoke into the device, waving at me and Libby.

The jet was screaming in now, full flaps and howling like a monstrous banshee. Libby and I dissolved into muffled giggles. The loud noises caused Glen to shout into the phone, "Right, right, I'll call you in the morning! Right! Huh? Yeah, sure, I, huh?"

Suddenly the tape went silent. Glen froze and within the next moment, another engine was heard, but this one was a Ford Lotus screaming by at 180. Glen's eyes widen. "Uh... some kid's drag racing outside, I think."

The sound effect changes abruptly to a speeding sedan and the old screech of brakes, there's a last-second scream and a horrible collision. I moved from her position on the sofa and tried to find the right button to turn it off, but couldn't remember which one it was, so instead, I hit random buttons hoping to eventually find the right one. A loud screeck of fast-forward mayhem shot out of the speakers.

Glen improvised desperately, "Listen, Mom, I got to go, I think there's been an accident out front, I..."

I jumped back from the cassette player as World War II bursted out at full volume. Machine guns, hand grenades, diving bearcats and shouts of charging men filled the room as Glen made a last-ditch dive and flung the cassette out of the machine.

Blessed silence at last.

"Right. I'll call the police. No, just some neighbours having a fight, I guess." Glen reasoned to his mom. I dipped my hand into the bowl of crisps, as me and my best friend tried to keep our laughter quiet.

"I'm fine, I'm fine! Call you in the morning!" Glen finally hung up and sagged back, running his hand through his hair. Libby and I couldn't contain their laughter anymore and so both exploded into a fit of giggles.

I sat up and smiled, "Worked like a charm."

"Smooth" Libby added causing them to laugh again.

"Jesus." Glen sighed before walking off into the kitchen.

"See? I told you you'd be feeling better." I said, glancing over at Libby.

The young blonde shook her head, "All day long I been seeing that guy's weird face, and hearing those fingernails."

I looked up with a flinch. "Fingernails? That's amazing, you saying that. That made me remember the dream I had last night."

Libby glanced at me, as she changed her sitting position, "What did you dream?"

"I dreamed about this guy in a dirty red and green sweater." Libby's eyes widened at the information as Glen had entered the room again, now looking across at me.
