~THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR 4.6K! IT MEANS SO MUCH TO ME!~

"Y/N! Is that you!?" I jolted when I heard a familiar voice shout out my name. I spun around the the entrance. There stood Benny Watts, one of my old high school friends, nearly unrecognisable wearing a floor length leather coat, a cowboy hat and sporting a new moustache. He was swigging at a bottle of beer. I hadn't spoken to him since high school. Benny was one of the school nerds, but we shared a few classes together and ended up being pretty close friends. I even remember kissing him once when we were seventeen. My lip got hooked onto his braces. Then he moved away and I never heard from him again. Nevertheless, I was glad to be able to get out of the situation I was in.

"Oh my God! Benny! Benny Watts!" I beckoned him over with a pleading look on my face. He walked right over and 'Chad' let go of my hand.

"I'll take it from here, bud," He put his arm around me and walked me away from the bar and towards a small table where we sat, "what are you doing here?"

He looked at me with a confused but friendly smile.

"I've moved out here for work, it's so great to see you! God, I haven't seen you in about ten years!" I smiled back.

"What's the job?" He asked as he took a sip of beer.

"Uh, I'm a secretary in the Bank of America. My boss had to move out here and he gave me the option to move with him. I thought it'd be nice to have a change of scenery."

"Oh, nice." He leaned forwards and offered me a cigarette. I pulled one out of the box and he lit it for me.

"Yeah. What are you doing these days, Benny? I mean look at you! Last time I saw you, you wore a brace and glasses and, and you were obsessed with chess! I mean you look great, don't get me wrong, but so different!" I fumbled with the cigarette and finally inhaled it. He chuckled.

"Yeah, no, still obsessed with chess. I'm actually the current U.S champion. Other than that, just a few odd jobs here and there, really." He lit his own cigarette and sunk back into his chair.

"Oh that's amazing! Congratulations! I knew you'd go somewhere big. I just never understood how you could play that game. I guess it takes a genius."

"I could teach you. I have a place down in West Village, we could go back there for a while if you want." He offered with a smirk. I snorted with and mirrored his smirk.

"My oh my, you have grown some balls, Benny. But you know what? Sure. I will let you try to teach me chess."

"I won't try. I will. They don't call me the U.S champion for no reason." He smiled.

"You see, I told you! I'm a lost fucking cause!" I threw my hands up in frustration and slumped back onto one of Benny's metal fold up chairs after spending the past few hours trying to play the stupid game and failing miserably.

"I'm sorry but I genuinely don't know how you managed to fuck that up. It was literally lined up for you!" He laughed as he ran his fingers through his hair. For some reason, I really wanted to touch it. It looked so soft.

"Unlike some, I was not blessed with the ability to play this game." I sighed.

"That's right. You were blessed with beauty instead." He said, nonchalantly as he took a sip of his beer and licked his lips. I nervously laughed back at him. Was he hitting on me? I didn't mind if he was.

"You really have grown some balls. Well look, it's getting pretty late and I really don't want to have to walk around New York when it gets even later, so I best be off. Thank you, Benny. Tonight was fun." I collected up my belongings and stood up.

"Wait, Y/N, you can't go now! Jesus you'll get mugged! Let me drive you." He chased up to me.

"Sure, thanks Benny." I slid on my coat and Benny grabbed his. I opened the door and felt a hand softly hold onto mine. I turned around to face Benny.

"Hold on before you go, can I ask you something?" He asked. I gulped.

"Of course."

"It's stupid, but just out of curiosity, was there you know..." He motioned back and forwards between the two of us," back then?"

I blushed and looked down at my feet with a sheepish smile.

"Well I don't know, Benny," I chuckled," We had that awful but wonderful kiss when we were what, seventeen? Then I kind of fell in love with you and you moved away with no explanation. Oh God, I still remember crying on the phone to Ella because I thought you moved away because the kiss was so bad! It's actually kind of funny now I think about it."

He touched my arm, but unlike 'Chad' at the bar, it made me feel comfortable.

"I'm sorry. It was pretty shitty of me to leave like that. It was just for my dad's business but I was too embarrassed to even talk to you after that kiss! I wanted to die!" He also chuckled.

"You're telling me!"

"Give me a second chance. I promise I'll make it up to you." He tucked one of my rogue hairs behind my ear. I looked up at him with a confused smile.

"What?! Benny I only just met you again after ten years! You're literally a whole new person!"

"Then give me a chance, Y/N. I promise I won't let you down." He edged closer towards me and I let him. I wanted him to. I was overwhelmed by him smell of musky tobacco, liqueur and aftershave. He leaned in closer and our lips barely brushed against each other when I reached up and kissed his cheek.

"Goodnight, Benny." I smirked as I began to walk down the corridor when he grabbed my wrist, twirled me around to face him and slammed his lips into mine. I kissed him back, grabbing fistfuls of his hair as it became for passionate. I pulled apart and thought to myself, "What do I have to lose?".

"Fine. I grant you a second chance." I put my hands up on his shoulders.

"I know."
