If Only

Chapter 2: First Mission

((Y/N) Pov):

I wake up to the sound of soft rain on the roof of my estate. It felt strange having a whole estate to myself

One of my kakushi greets me as I leave for the day. Suddenly my crow says;

"Several young women have been going missing at night in the northwest village." The crow said.

"Northwest!? That's were my village is! I hope Chisaki is safe." (Y/N) thought. "Thanks" (Y/N) said to her crow.

"Tokito Muichiro will be accompanying you on this mission. Meet him at the swordsmith village as soon as possible." The crow added and flew off.

"Wait, what!? Muichiro- kun is coming with me!?" I said in surprise.

(At the sword smith village)

(Muichiro Pov):

I look around to see if (Y/N) had arrived. She was sprinting towards me, her (H/C) hair blowing behind her.

"Hi (Y/N)- chan." I greeted her. 

"Hello Muichiro- kun." She greeted me back. "Sorry did I make you wait for me?" Her (E/C) eyes were full of concern as she looked at me. 

"No, no, I just got here." I reassured her. "Rengoku- san, the yellow and red haired man, was meant to come with you, but he had something more urgent so I came instead." I told her.

"Well I'm happy that you came instead because I have never really spoken to Rengoku- san before. Besides, doing missions with friends are much more fun!" (Y/N) told me with a warm smile that made my face heat up.

"Come on let's go." I beckoned to her towards the village.

"Calm down. I know the place better then you anyway." (Y/N) said when we reached the village. "It's my hometown." She answered my puzzled look.

"Oh. That's cool." I said. 

(Time skip, night.)

((Y/N) Pov):

"I haven't been here for over a year. I wonder if Chisaki will remember me?" I wondered. "Let's start by asking people about the missing girls." I suggested.

"Sure." Muichiro- kun answered.

We walked around the town and I realised something was off. Everyone looked at me and Muichiro- kun in a peculiar way and whispering about us.

"Hey (Y/N)?" Muichiro- kun asked me. "Was your village always like this?"

"No I-I don't know what's happened." I told him.

"(Y-Y-Y/N)?" Someone with a familiar voice said to me.

I looked at the owner of the voice. It was Chisaki.

"Chisaki! Oh I'm so happy to see you!" I said rushing towards her and hugging her. 

"H-how are you... How are you alive?" She said as tears ran down her face. "Hikaru- sama told the whole village that you had been killed during Final Selection."

"Wait who?" I asked her.

"The n-new minister [sniff] of this villa-age." Chisaki told me through sobs. 

"Oh" I said. I looked at Muichiro- kun signaling that something was off. 

"I'm sorry to intrude on such a tender moment, but me and (Y/N)- chan are here to do something about the missing girls, so if you will excuse us." He said and grabbed my hand.

His hands were small and soft. I blushed as he didn't let go of my hands and walked away.

"(Y/N) is that your boyfriend?" Chisaki called.

I blushed at this and shouted back;

"No! He is just a good friend." Which at this point was true.

Moments passed and Muichiro- kun still didn't let go of my hand.

"Um... Muichiro- kun." I said.

"Hm?"

"Um well I'm not complaining or anything, but if a demon comes and we're holding hands, we can't really fight..." I told him.

"Oh I'm so sorry (Y/N)- chan." He said looking very flustered and embarrassed.

"No it's ok." I said, now regretting saying that.

(No one's Pov):

As the two approached the mansion that the so-called Hikaru- sama lived.

"Are you ready?" Muichiro- kun asked (Y/N).

(Y/N) took a deep breath and nodded.
