Chrollo and I left the small cafe, heading back to headquarters. By the way Chrollo wasn't being his usual annoying self, I knew this mission was going to be bad. I decided to take this silence and think about my mission.
I could probably kill the troupe while they are focused on their mission, but I just need to find the right time. I can't make one mistake, but something came to mind.
"Chrollo?"
"Yes?"
"Are you going to tell the troupe about my mission?"
"No. They should be strong enough and know to watch their back."
That's good, I guess. Hopefully, there's enough chaos so I can make this my last mission. I just want to live a normal life, maybe with Chrollo. I have enough money, and I can always pick up small missions.
"Chrollo?" He chuckled.
"Yes, sweetheart?"
"What are you going to do after this?"
"I don't know. What about you? When you are done with your mission."
"I'm thinking about retiring. I want to live near water and live my life. Maybe with someone so I'm not lonely."
"That sounds nice." Did he not get the hint? "Maybe I can join and keep you company."
"I would like that. We can get to know each other properly."
"Yes. Well, we are here. I wish you good luck on your mission. My troupe is very strong, so don't die." He kissed my forehead, leaving me outside. They are strong, but I would like to believe that I'm stronger. I walked into the building and heard them talking about the security.
"We will be separated." I stopped paying attention. Split up? I don't know if this makes my job easier or harder. "Lastly, I'll be going with Itsumi."
I looked up at Chrollo. He's making it difficult for me to reach the others. They continued talking about their plan, while I was coming up with a plan for myself. I felt my phone vibrate. I excused myself and answered the call.
"Hi, dad."
"Before you start talking, Illumi is on this call too. However, he will not be talking." Of course, he is.
"Is something wrong?"
"Is it true that Chrollo was in your apartment?" That little shit. "Answer the question."
"Yes."
"Why? Why is your target in your apartment?"
"I'm getting close to him. There's an event going on tonight. I plan on killing the troupe then."
"Illumi, your grandfather, and I will be there too. We are on our own mission. You can't have relationships, especially not ones with killers."
"I know."
"Do you know? Because it seems like you don't. If you don't kill him, someone else will before you. This little crush that you have, needs to disappear before tonight. This is why arrange marriages happen."
"I know."
"Stop saying I know, when you obviously don't. If you just listened to me, and picked one of the three guys, you wouldn't have feelings for him. Itsumi! Don't forget that our reputation is on the line. Your little crush will not ruin our name."
"I-okay."
"I almost forgot. Your mission has changed. Your target is Chrollo. He is more important. Illumi can handle the rest of the troupe."
"B-but, he wasn't assigned them."
"No, he wasn't. He wants to help you get out of your crush phase. By doing this, all of your attention should be on killing Chrollo."
"Okay."
"We will see you later."
"Alright."
"Don't forget. If you don't kill him, someone will." Just like that, he hung up, leaving me standing there with tears forming. I pair of strong arms pulled me into a hug.
"Why are you crying?" I looked up at Chrollo.
"My family doesn't let me have nice things." He laughed. "You know, you are really bad at comforting people."
"You don't have to be like your family."
"Yes, I do."
"Whatever you say. Here, I got you something." He handed me a bracelet. It was a simple silver bracelet, nothing too special. "After this, let's go somewhere. Somewhere away from this place. Just us two."
"I'd love that." Fuck you, Chrollo. Stop making me like you.
