With the weapons and items that we had, we began building and exploring.
We ended up finding a desert biome next to a dark oak forest and decided to set up our country there. We made a house at the center for items and trades, although it also counts as a storage house. There's beds at the 3rd floor of it if we want to sleep over for the night since we just got there and it would be better to work on the houses in the morning than the night because of mobs.
Not all of us have good armor or weapons yet.
Anyways! Yeah, I decided to work on my house. It would have only 2 floors or less, it would also include a basement for stuff.
I needed wood so I began planting, growing trees and cutting them down. It didn't take me that long to figure out what design I needed.. In all SMP's that I joined, I always made sure my house was FAR FAR FAR away from the others. The reason is;
- I want my house to be hidden, incase of raiders or something.
- People getting my stuff.
- Burning my house
..
It would be very annoying to see all these, happened to me too many times! I was determined to keep my house/base hidden from others. To go back to the base however I had to use nether travel. I put the portal a bit far from my home as well so they wont see my house instantly if they decided to use nether travel.
I don't have diamonds yet.. plus I'm horrible at making portals without having obsidian itself or using lava buckets to build it by hand. I'm not as good at it as my friends are since I never was the one who bothers using it, should've practiced.

We found a lava pool near the desert area of our country, so.. they decided to make a portal while I watched them. Once they were done we left it alone for a while, but I went back a long way to make buckets and bring them to the lava pool.. after I bring them there I'll get 10 buckets of lava for MY portal in the future.
In the end I just left the lava buckets in a chest under my house to avoid getting others the opportunity to ruin my house.. yeah..
