A terrible screeching sound echoes through the subway as my train pulls itself to a stop, the gust of cool wind pushing my hair from my face and making my nose tickle.
As the shivering New Yorkers rush past me onto the train to escape the cold and as the disgusting smell of tobacco fills my nose, I can't help but feel like if I hop on my train I'd be missing something significant; something more important than going to work or escaping the cold and the smell.
Something life changing. My thoughts are ripped from myself as the train honks and leaves me behind. I am alone now and I'm cursing myself for being so ridiculous. I should have got on that train and gone to work, today is just like yesterday and I'm stupid for having thought I was special enough for an event like what I'd felt to occur around me.
I turn to check the time which the next train comes but the time that I read is so peculiar I have to grab my glasses.
13:21 am
I look at the clock to my right and see its hands pointing to hour 13 and minute 20. I must be out of my mind because last time i checked there was no such thing as a 13th hour. Thinking it's just a weird mess up, I turn myself around once again to wait for the train supposedly coming in one minute.
My heart jumps and so does my body when I see a girl standing infront of me - her skin is pale and her hair's bright red, freckles scattered across her cheeks.
She must be freezing... I think as I realise she is only wearing a thin white night gown, everything underneath being completely visible."Are you okay?" I ask; her plump lips turn up into a smile and she reaches forward to cup my face.
Her voice a low whisper and almost ethereal she replies,
"Yes, my love, what's about to happen to you is life changing..."
Those last two words ring through my head as I feel her hands move me around and push my chest. I fall on the tracks and fear bubbles inside of me; but as the terrible screeching echos again and the train plummets towards me, I stay put. My eyes stuck on the woman who is staring back at me.
"Life changing..." I repeat under my breath, before I feel my body twist and everything goes dark.
