When I got out of school, I saw Rose standing with a boy- obviously flirting- and went to interrupt her moment.
"Rose," I said impatiently, looking at the boy.
"Sorry, I got to go home. I will see you at Willow's house." She said to the boy. He walked away as she turned around to face me pissed off obviously.
"Sorry, but I don't think mom would like you hanging out with that 'boy'."
"Sam is a nice guy, he knows what happens at home." She said as we started walking home.
"Whatever. Anyway, tell mom I'm studying at Cate's house please? We are going to a party."
"Wait, a party?" She said confused looking at me.
"Yea, and? Can't I have a normal year of high school?" I said more casually than I meant.
"Whatever,"
When we got to Willow's house-who is Rose's friend-I said goodbye and walked to give the little boy my lunch. When I was done, I went home. I was really lucky. No cars.
I went inside and checked the time. It was already 5:25. My parents would be home very soon. I got changed into something a little more fancy than my jeans and T-shirt and put my bag in a hole under my bed I somehow made to hide things I didn't want my parents to see. Then, I called Cate to come pick me up and twenty minutes later, she was there.
"Hey, I said as I got in the car, almost hitting my head.
"What's up?"
"Nothing much. Just trying not to get caught by my psycho parents."
"Oh," At my words, Cate put the car in drive as if she didn't want me to be grounded again.
"So, I think that Liam is going to ask you out," I say casually.
"Oh, yea. I hope so. He has been acting like he wanted to ask me out for a long time." She turned the car to the left.
"You know Ada, there might be some guys there our age," She said encouraging me.
"Cate, I've told you, I don't date. My parents don't let me." I said as we pulled to Liam's house.
"Oh, how could I forget? But couldn't you just do what your sister does?"
I knew she was talking about lying straight in front of my parents. At least she was out of the house in three weeks.
I got out of the car and walked to the front door with Cate by my side. She knocked and then the door opened.
"Hey! Come right in." Liam says. I walk in first, looking at his mansion of a house. I turn around and saw Liam put his hand on the small of Cate's back and shudder. I wink at Cate and walk away exploring a tiny bit more. Wow. There is a lot of people. I went to the kitchen to find some snacks, since my mom doesn't let me have any because I will be 'too fat to be accepted as her daughter.'
There was a whole platter of grapes and crackers and cheese; even fudge! I got a plate and started getting as much food as I wanted. I sat down in Liam's living room and started to eat my food. Then, someone sat next to me.
"Really hungry, aren't you?" The voice said.
They sounded sweet and enjoying. I turned to see who it was. It was a guy and he had brown hair and eyes. He also had a blue T-shirt and some baggy jeans.
"Yea. Strict parents." I laughed. He wouldn't understand.
"Oh. They don't feed you?"
"Well, obviously they feed me, they just don't let me have anything.... like this." I showed him the plate and he took a piece of cheese off.
"Hey!" I said putting my plate back to my stomach.
"Not a sharer, I guess,"
"Like I said, I don't get to eat this food very often," I rolled my eyes stuffing a cracker in my mouth.
"Anyway, I'm Eddy." He said too casual as I had my mouth full of food. I finished chewing.
"Oh, I'm Ada. Nice to meet you,"
"Nice to meet you too." He said still looking at me.
"You know, my friend is hanging out with this boy and is completely ignoring me, so, you're my only person I get to talk to." I said putting my plate down.
"Oh really?"
"Yep. Depressing, right?"
"Yea. My friend is hanging out with a girl too."
"Is her name Cate?" I said looking at him.
"Umm...I guess,"
"Well, is your friend's name Liam?"
"Ah, yes." He said nodding his head.
I got up going to throw away my plate. If I could find the trash can.
"Big house," Eddy mumbled to himself.
"Yea, I know right?" I said, ignoring the fact he was talking to himself.
"Why don't I just take you to the movie theater or something?" He said.
"Uhh...I don't think I can,"
"Oh, right, strict parents."
I wanted to get out of here.
"I guess I could just give you my number. I mean I would be risking my life, but I think it's worth it." I laughed nervously. He hands me his phone and I put my number in the phone.
"Well, I guess I will see you at school. Try and find me at lunch so we can talk." I say, walking to find Cate.
"See you," He says as I walked away.
I couldn't find Cate, so I just texted her that I was walking home.
When I got home, only Rose was there, so I was safe. I got changed immediately and then took my bag out from under the hole under my bed. I turned on the lamp on my desk and did my homework. When I was done, I put it in my bag and went to the living room because my parents were home.
"Hey Ada," My dad said.
"Hey,"
"Come sit down. Rose has some news." My mom said, hands in between her legs. I sit down.
"I'm going to college in three days,"
"What?" I said really annoyed.
"Yea. Big surprise."
We sat in silence for what felt like hours. My dad was the one who broke the silence.
"I'm going to make some dinner. Carla, can you help?" My dad said to my mom.
I looked at Rose and walked in my room and didn't come out until dinner.
