I woke up to my alarm ringing as loud as possible. I turned it off and stayed in bed for two seconds before I realized if I didn't get out, my mom would be mad at me. I got up and stretched and then went to my dresser. I went to the third drawer, where I kept my pants and chose some dark jeans with flowers on the bottom hem. Then, I got a plain T-shirt and my favorite black hoodie and went to the bathroom to get ready.
When I was in the bathroom, I heard my sister in the kitchen with my mom talking about something. Usually, my mom isn't up until 7:00 am when we are gone, but I guess today she wanted to go to work early. I brushed my teeth and my hair, keeping it down because I took a shower last night and didn't want to put it up. I walked out of the bathroom and back into my bedroom, getting my school bag ready for the day. When I was done, I went to the kitchen to get my lunch ready for the day.
"Hey," My mom said to me as I walked into the kitchen.
"Hi." I said back. I didn't really want to talk to my mother because she was horrible at small talk and was a jerk.
"Can I have the mustard, please Ada?" Rose said to me.
"Of course, here," I handed her the yellow bottle.
We were silent while we all made our lunches for the day. Our mom never let Rose and I get school lunch, but my mom didn't know I was getting school lunch with my friends bank account; she let me use it because she felt bad my parents were so strict, and she never used it.
Now you're probably wondering, 'what do you do with the lunch that you pack in your lunchbox?'
Great question. I usually give it to this little boy who lives in a cardboard box down by a small bridge; he has nothing to eat.
"Wow, your packing a lot of food. Put some back. I don't want you getting fatter than you already are." My mom said putting a fruit snack back in the cupboard.
"Mom, that was for when I walk home, I get hungry."
"No, you don't need anymore food than you already have,"
I look at her.
"Fine I guess." I say closing the lunchbox.
"I'll be right back," My mom says walking to the bathroom. I grab the fruit snack out of the cupboard and put it my lunchbox. She would never notice, hopefully. I close the lunchbox and put it in my bag, as well as well as my water bottle and phone.
"Why did you do that?" Rose whispers
"I will tell you outside," I say back. "Bye mom, we're leaving,"
"Bye girls, have a good day."
Yea, I would try if I didn't live with you. I say in my head and walk out the door with Rose.
"So, are you going to tell me now?"
"Fine," I say. "It's for this boy that lives under the bridge. I give it to him after school, but you would have known if you didn't hang out with your friends after school." I say annoyed
"Well, sorry." Rose says.
"Do you even know how much trouble you would get in if mom found out?" I say back to her while walking.
"Yes, but she thinks I have after school activities. My friend even took my place to pretend she was me." She says.
"Whatever, it's your loss," I say.
After that, we don't talk that much while we walk to school. Our mom doesn't let us take the bus because it's gross and weird, so we have to walk half a mile to the Sacramento High-School. See why I was saying my parents are strict.
Anyways, Rose is one year older than me. She is 18, on the 12th of July when school is over. Once she gets out of school because she is a senior, she is going to college at Stanford. She already applied and got in. I am obviously 17, the same age as her, although I just turned 17 a month ago. Me, on the other hand am only in Junior year of high school, so I will be stuck with my parents by myself for a year.
It is currently June 14 and school ends on the 20th. And like I said, I will be by myself with my parents because my sister is going to college. Anyway, Rose and I walk to school in silence for the rest of the half-mile.
