You have seven days before we break free of our prison. The words that popped up on her phone from Emme's text still burned into her brain. We will break free in seven days. What is that supposed to mean Harper wondered. Seven days. If something was going to break free in seven days, it would be free on her birthday December 28. She decided to ponder this later. After all her brother William was coming to town today and since she only saw him four times a year, she thought it was best to not seem like a lunatic muttering about statues that will come to break free of mysterious prisons.

"hi," said William dumbly "umm what's up?" William just arrived at Harpers' house after a long flight and two-hour drive. He arrived one day before her birthday and was going to leave one day after. They were both sitting in the living room. Harper in soft plush and William on a hard armchair.
"a lot," said harper thinking about the message on the statue.
"cool me two" replied William thinking about the pen.
"really," said harper narrowing her eyes
"ya. Why?"
"Last time you said," Harper over dramatically cleared her throat " that you were, 'afraid I will die of boredom and I would be incredibly relived if an asteroid came and destroyed all of humanity.'"
"Well, harper. People can change," William said with what he hoped was an innocent shrug.
"hey, it was you who said it. Not me." Both felt the silent closing in but nether wanted to tell the other what was on their minds in fear of sounding crazy.
"well you two seem to be having a blast," said Robert, sarcastically. Robert was a writer; he mostly rewrites classic literature. He was also Harper's real dad. They both nodded at him nether of them paying him any attention.
"Why don't you two go to the abandoned park? You know the way right harper?" harper nodded again, still not listening. Robert shook his head and grabbed both of his children by the hands and threw them outside.
"I guess we might as well go to the abandoned park," said William. Harper mindlessly walked them there but right before they turned the corner, she remembered all the Egyptian statues. She stopped and grabbed Williams's hand two yards before he turned the corner. William stumbled "what are you doing?"
"I um changed my mind I want to have ice cream, there a great pace across town, far from here. Yep, it great, let's go" Williams gave his sister a strange look.
"how about after. We're almost there."
"no, I think we better go now, yeh, we should let's go now, please." Now harper was just rambling practically begging her brother not to turn the corner. William gave her one more look before coming to a conclusion
"your afraid of the park aren't you," he said softly she wanted to laugh bad because anyone who knew her knew she was not afraid of anything. Even when she was 10. She was at a Halloween party and then from the basement came strange moaning she was the only one brave enough to go down there. Then seven minutes later she came back up holding a cat and everyone crowded around her for the next two weeks because of it.
Harper tied hard to look serious but she thought that if she looked up, she would burst out laughing. So she looked at her hands in what is hoped looked like shame.
"yes" she muttered. "now can we please go and get the ice cream." This excuse was exactly what she needed. Now her brother wouldn't see the weird statues or have to be suspicious.
"What?" he looked shocked. "No way we have to get you over your fear"
Come on! Why does he always have to be so helpful?
"I'd rather not," said harper trying to get him to let go of her hand.
"Relax I promise that after we can get ice cream." Well, there is are only two things I can do now Harper thought. One, have a fake mental meltdown and lose all my dignity, or two, run. Harper went with choice two and ran. However, she only got about six feet when William grabbed her around her middle and, much to her surprise because he was ever so skinny, lifted her on his shoulders and carried her like a bag of potato sacks around the corner.
