By now, you've started to truly become a couple. Still, Severus is a deeply scarred individual. He's going to have his moments of doubt.

"Severus."

Eyes closed, he rested his forehead against yours. "Do you have any idea how much I love you?" He ran his fingers through your hair. "The things I would do for you..."

"Shhh," you cupped his cheek. "I know."

"Do you?"

"Mmm." You nodded, stroking his jaw. "I feel it, too."

His eyes opened to study you as he pulled away.

"Do you believe me?"

He searched your gaze, clearly wanting to. Your heart ached. Such longing, hidden behind a castle's worth of walls. Still, now wasn't the time.

"Because, if you don't, I'm happy to go get some veritaserum." As intended, a smile quirked his lips. He snorted, pulling back as he straightened to his full height. "Don't tempt me."

"Well, it's not like you don't read my mind all the time," you playfully accused.

"Not all the time," he groused, his tone far from innocent.

"So you do read my thoughts?"

He froze. You feigned a glare. He is in so much trouble. A pause. Just for that, I'm going to let him go the rest of the day with ink on his face.

Sure enough, he lifted a hand to wipe at the non-existent stain. "Ha! Caught you!" He blanched like a ghost. You giggled. It was just too easy.

His eyes narrowed on your mirthful expression. "Clearly, you've been spending too much time with the Malfoys."

"Hey, I'm a good influence on them," you defended.

"And they," he replied with a lifted brow, "Are a bad influence on you."

"Severus," you scolded, eyes twinkling. "How can you say that? Draco's your godson."

"And he's an insufferable dunderhead half the time."

Well, you couldn't entirely disagree with that. "Does he know you feel that way about him? I thought it was common knowledge that you think he's pure perfection."

He scoffed. "Hardly. If you knew half of the idiotic nonsense he gets himself into..." He shook his head. "It's a miracle he's managed to stay alive."

You smiled at the obvious love hidden behind his rueful remarks.
