**At Carly's House**
**Valerie POV**"Hey Valerie, when's Jason taking you out to dinner? Y'all's anniversary was last week!" Asks Carly, while she searches my fridge for snacks.
"I don't know, Carly. He's been so. . . distant lately. I don't know if I should say something or not," I say with a sigh. Jason has been like this for months. He's always claiming to be putting in extra hours, or staying at Wayne's for the weekend. I know he's lying to me, but how do I confront him? He always changes the subject when I ask, or leaves the room, but he never answers me. I take all my thoughts and pour them into a speech that leaves me in tears.
"Val, he's cheating on you," she says woth her back to me, as if she doesn't want to see my face, already streaked with my running mascara.
"H-How. . . What? I mean, I would understand if he was drinking or doing drugs behind my back, but cheating?" Falling to the floor, I begin to sob. Carly's arms gently wrap around me, and she begins to rock my shaking body back and forth, calming me slowly. Taking a deep breath, I sit up and begin to regulate my breathing. The phone rings in the living room and she silently leaves to answer. I calm myself and stand. Suddenly, a rush of anger envelops me and I am suddenly so infuriated I can hardly breathe. I head for the door, yanking Carly's keys off the hook so hard, the wooden curve falls to the floor, but I don't care, I have to get away from this. As I back her X-terra out of the driveway, I remind myself that I have no idea where I'm going, but who cares. I wipe my cheeks with an old napkin I find on the dash, and I clear my head. Just drive, Valerie. Just. Drive.
