(Kayla's POV)

It was just another day in good Ol' sunny Miami Florida. The birds are chirping, the dogs are barking, and Gabe and I are on our way to the park for a classic picnic. Gabe and I have been dating for 6 months now, but it feels like 6 years. I can’t believe this amazing guy beside me has been with me for this long. I completely am in love with him and I would never leave him.

“Is this a nice place to set up?” Gabe asks as we stand underneath a huge maple tree. I hadn’t even realized we entered the park. I nod and he smiles at me. He places a blanket on the ground and sits down, motioning to follow. I do.

“So, what did you pack?” I ask, trying to sound caring. I honestly couldn’t care less if he made some kind of chili that could set your mouth on fire, which he knows I can’t stand, I just want to spend some time with him.

“Uh, haha... grilled cheese sandwiches, soup and for dessert, I brought some chocolate covered strawberries and… haha, an apple pie,” he laughs at what I assumed his mother had had packed. I grab my sandwich and began nibbling on it, listening to one of Gabe’s band rehearsals and how Dana pranked Cole so bad that he was forced to take a week off for some counselling. I nodded from time to time, not really paying attention. All I can think about is how Gabe had a choice of millions of girls who were willing to go out with him and he picked me because I was kind enough to give him directions to the IM5 house, which just so happens to be across the street from me. He taps my shoulder slightly, pulling me out of my thoughts.

“I was listening!” I say panicked. He just laughs at me.

“No you weren’t. You just admitted it.” I blush a deep red as I look away.

“Sorry.”

“Penny for your thought?” he asks, actually holding out a single penny. I giggleand pluck the penny out of his hands and motion for him to pour the soup.

“I’m just thinking how lucky I am.”

“For what?” he hands me a cup of the soup and I thank him.

“That’ll cost you another penny.” He laughs and grabs another one from his pocket and hands it to me. Oh so gullible. “That of all people, you chose me,” I whisper, But I can tell that he had heard it as the sides of his mouth rise ever so slightly. He chuckled, causing me to raise an eyebrow at him.

"Funny. I was just thinking the same thing about you," he confessed, blushing a dark shade of red. I giggle at his reaction to his confession and he just rolls his eyes.  We sit there, talking about random things and eating our desert and it was nice. Perfect actually. He all of a sudden stands in the middle of my sentence and I raise an eyebrow at him, shutting my mouth as I am extremely comfy and I do not like being interrupted. He walks around me and the next thing I know, my fedora is pulled off my head, revealing my red dyed hair, and is dangling it above me.

"You Bastard!" I yell as I jump up and he bolts, making me chase me.  I have an issue with my head and I hate when I don't wear hats. I chase him all the way to the edge where the treeline begins and I lose him in it. I look around for some kind of sign of him, when I notice his bracelet on some nearby tree branch. I place it on my wrist and not even 4 metres ahead of me, his scarf was there. I guess he really didn't want me to have my fedora. I continue to follow a small trail of bracelets and pocket items until it stops and I'm left with a trail of rose petals. What on earth? I follow that until I can see the maple tree that we were originally sitting under and I see Gabe standing there, smiling. I bolt up the hill and tackle him, sending both of us to the ground in a fit of laughter. We lay there for a while, just looking up towards the sky. I still want my fedora back. He sits up, like he had read my mind and turns towards me.

"What?" I ask. He just smiles as puts my fedora in front of him. I look at him curiously as he gets up onto one knee in between my legs. "Gabe?" I ask cautiously as I sit up, becoming face to face with him. His smile grows wider as he lifts my fedora like a waiter, revealing a small, opened black box. I gasp, covering my mouth. In the box was a silver band with a single diamond in the center. Tears start pouring down my face as I smile and giggle.

"Kayla, I know we've only known each other for a short amount of time, but I feel like I've known you for years now. I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with. So if you'll have me... can you do me the honours and marry me?" I just stare at him, frozen. I can't believe this is happening! I nod and burst into laughter as I tackle him again to the ground, straddling his waist, just inches away.

"Yes, I'll marry you!" I laugh as he smiles and pulls my face down towards his with one hand as he places my fedora back on my head with the other. I don't resist as our lips connect and I deepen the kiss. He pulls away and sits up, but I'm still straddling his waist. He places the diamond ring on my finger and it fits perfectly. I examine the ring's beauty of course. I am marrying Gabe Morales after all. I lean towards him and whisper, "Thank-you," before I kiss him once more. I feel his lips rise slightly and I know he's smiling as he kisses me back, but he pulls away.

"No, Thank-you."
