You're fine.
There's nothing to be worried about.
It's just an interview.
Well... the third one of the weekend.
I groaned into my hands as I sat in the driver's seat of my dad's car. Yesterday I had two interviews that I had planned out and I had somehow flunked both of them within the first couple minutes.
All I had to do was walk in and the employer told me I, 'wasn't who they were looking for'. I gave up yesterday but today was a new day and I was hoping that it would go better.
So, I finished hyping myself up before heading towards the store. It was a pretty popular smoothie bar. They were located close to the high school so I could walk or drive quickly after school.
I was picking the lint and straightening my clothes out as I walked through the open doors. I breathed a sigh of accomplishment and took a confident step forwards...
...only to run right into someone's outstretched hand...
...a hand that was holding a very full smoothie...
...that was now completely covering my flowered blouse and jeans.
I loud gasp tore through my mouth from shock. "I'm so sorry!" I exclaimed to the person. I expected them to return my apology, but all that came in the silence was a harsh sigh and grumble.
I looked up in surprise and was met with a boy who was about my age. He had dirty blonde hair and a sharp jaw. His body was tense as a string, muscles clenched tightly. He would've been one of the most handsome men I had ever seen if it weren't for the nasty sneer that was molded on his lips.
"I can't deal with this shit right now," He spat before walking right past me out the door. I was left standing in bright humiliation as a dozen people gawked at me.
So overwhelmed, I slipped up to the front counter and asked for assistance.
"What happened to you!" The kind lady behind the counter asked me.
"I'm so sorry! I bumped into someone on the way in here and the smoothie spilt all over the floor. If you gave me a mop or something I can clean it up for you guys?" I hurriedly explained.
"Oh no, love! Don't worry about it! Would you like a new smoothie?" The lady brought tears forward in my eyes as her attitude reminded me of past memories.
"No, that's okay. It wasn't my smoothie. I was here for the job interview but I think I'm going to call it quits. Thanks for the offer though," I told this to the lady before walking out of the store and back to the car.
When I had safely locked myself back in the vehicle, the water in my eyes was able to fall down my cheeks as light sobs broke through my chest. Sometimes I just couldn't believe people. Now I was wrecked for that job.
Starting the car, I drove carefully through my blurry vision all the way home. I had just enough time to quickly change and fix myself before I rushed back to the car to get to my last interview.
Parking, I made my way inside, watching every movement around me with the eyes of a hawk. I could not sabotage this one. The place was a little bakery and coffee shop called, "Bakes and Beans"
"Hello!" A friendly voice called to me. Looking up I caught notice of a women who looked to be in her late fifties. She had graying hair and smile lines surrounded her brown eyes.
"Hi there, I'm Mariah Gideon! I'm here for the job interview?"
"Ah yes, come with me dear," I listened to the women. Stepping behind her to the back of the shop. The heavy scent of sweets carried to my nose as we walked past the kitchen and into an office.
I mentally hyped myself up as we entered the room and sat down. The lady grabbed a clip board and sat down opposite to me with a kind smile.
I perfected my posture as she began.
"Well hello Mariah, my name's Penny and I own this shop, why don't you tell me a little bit about yourself?"
This was the first interview where I managed to sit down and actually answer the questions. I was specific and creative with my answers for all Penny's prompts.
Around twenty minutes later she concluded the interview before smiling at me. I held my breath, waiting to see what she would tell me.
"Well young lady, when can you start?"
My heart thundered with joy and I almost squealed with how happy I was. We discussed hours and days all while I smiled so widely my cheeks had started to hurt.
We agreed on working Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Which was fairly good for starting a new job. I ended my time there profusely thanking Penny while she told me she would see me the next day.
I could've skipped out to the car with how excited I was when I left. All earlier disasters had been forgotten as I drove home for a second time.
When I arrived home, I was just in time for dinner to be cooking on the stove. Melissa was in the kitchen with Sara at the table while Sophie and dad were missing.
"Hey Mariah, how'd the interviews go?" Melissa asked me when I rounded the corner.
"They were good, I got the job at the coffee shop!" I let a bit of pride and happiness leak into my voice.
"Well done, you should wash up. Dinner will be ready in a few minutes,"
I murmured my agrees to Melissa before heading up to my room. I was happy with how the day had went. Yesterday was challenging. And today in the morning was even harder.
Anger burst through me as I remembered what happened earlier. What a dick. Who could act so self centered!? I sucked in a breath to calm myself down before focusing on what good had come from it.
Not the asshole I would never see again.
