Seat 36C

Chapter One

I ran my fingers through my hair. I was so nervous.
"You okay?" My best friend Marley asked from beside me.
"Yeah..." I sighed. "Just... Nervous..."
"I've got the perfect distraction," Marley said, and with a small smile she snatched the ticket from my lap.
"Let's play a game..." She wiggled her eyebrows and I couldn't help but laugh at my friend's dorkiness. "Who's going to be sitting next to you?"
I shrugged. "I don't know."
"Take a guess!" Marley laughed. "There's two empty seats there. That's like... Two serial killers-"
"Marley!" I laughed.
"Two magazine models..." Marley continued, and I couldn't help but mirror the grin on her face.
"You're obsessed." I teased, and she nodded in mock guilt.
"'Scuse me." A voice said, interrupting us. I moved so our neighbours for the next 21 hours could get into their seats.
"They're British!" Marley mouthed. I suppressed a laugh. She was going to have an aneurysm or something. They were both guys, I was able to see, but I couldn't exactly get a better look without being inches away from their faces. And unlike Marley, I valued personal space even where potential magazine models were concerned. I snapped out of my own thoughts because Marley was tapping my arm.
"They're cute," she mouthed, eyes wide. I raised an eyebrow indifferently, but I had to admit I was curious now.
"Calm down." I mouthed back. She shook her head. I pulled out the magazine from the holder and began to flip through. The jitters had returned. I couldn't concentrate.
"Someone's nervous," the boy next to me said softly. It sounded like more of a sneer than a sympathy.
"Yeah." I simply murmured, throwing a glance in his direction without having the courage to look at him directly.
"Economy class," the boy continued narcissistically, "I'm forced to deal with people like this."
My stomach dropped - his abruptness shocked me, and all of a sudden I wanted this flight to be over before it had even began.
