Ariana knocked on the cell door and smiled at Briar when she got her attention. She opened the door with the key Matthew gave her and walked into the cell, that smile not sliding off her face once."Hi, Briar! I'm Ariana," Ariana stuck her hand out for Briar to shake it. Briar looked at Ariana's hand before slowly backing away. Ariana smiled and slowly nodded her head as she put her hands back in her pockets. "That's alright. I see that you were drawing. May I look?"
Briar shook her head.
"That's alright as well. I know it's going to take a little bit of time before you trust me. But I promise you that I won't hurt you." Ariana reassured. Briar looked at Ariana before she began to draw again. Ariana took this time to look around Briars room.
There was a bed that looked a little too cold for her liking. On the wall by the bed there were hangers holding several black hoodies and on the floor in front of the bed were a pair of black slippers.
By the small window there was a wooden table that looked like it has been burned multiple times. On the table was several notebooks. Ariana reached out to grab one, but a hand fell over hers. She looked to her side to see Briar. "No." Briar said, "private." Ariana nodded her head then watched as Briar sat back down on the floor and continued to draw in her notebook.
"Why are you sitting on the floor Briar? Isn't it a bit cold?" Ariana asked. Briar shook her head. Ariana knew that the girl was a tad bit uncomfortable, but she decided not to say anything. Ariana opened the door and left the room since it seemed like Briar didn't want to be bothered.
"She's a quiet one, I know." Someone said from behind Ariana. Ariana jumped and turned around to see a girl with brown hair that was in a ponytail and brown eyes that sparkles in the dim lighting of the hospital. "She'll warm up to you. Soon she'll be calling you mother and stuff like that."
"I'm... sorry, who are you?" Ariana asked, her eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "Courtney Chipolone. I was Briar'a doctor for a while until I got assigned to a new patient. Trust me when I saw she's the sweetest girl in the world. You just have to be careful with her." Courtney exclaimed.
"Oh, okay. I'm Ariana Grande." Courtney and Ariana shook hands with each other. "Would you like to come and eat lunch with me and the other doctors?" Courtney offered. Ariana was about to say yes, but the lead doctor cut her off.
"I'm sure Dr. Grande would love to, Dr. Chipolone, but I need Dr. Grande for a second. She will join you later." Courtney nodded with a smile. "Alright, see you later, Ariana." Courtney shortly waved to Ariana before leaving to the lunchroom.
"Please follow me to my office, Dr. Grande." The doctor started walking quickly to his office, saying hi to all of his nurses and patients as he walked passed them. He opened his office door and sighed when he saw one of his many patients rummaging through his paperwork.
"WHERE IS IT?! WHERE ARE MY FILES!!" The patient yelled, pushing everything off the desk and slamming his hands down. "Gregory, you are going to hurt yourself if you continue to slam your hands on my desk. It is a hard surface, not a pillow." The patient continued to bang his hands on the table until he used his head. The doctor quickly called Gregory's nurse and the nurse took Gregory away.
The doctor began to clean up his office with a little help from Ariana, they then sat down.
"What is it that you need, Dr. Benjamin?" Ariana asked.
Dr. Benjamin leaned over on his desk, his eyes staring into Ariana's. "I'm here to talk to you about Briar Channing, your first patient. I need you to be careful with her, Ariana. We cannot let you leave hurt by Channing. I recommend you stay out of her cell, and communicate from the voice box." Dr. Benjamin exclaimed making Ariana furrow her eyebrows.
"Briar seems like an Angel, though." Ariana said, her eyebrows furrowed in semi-anger. "Someone like Briar shouldn't be given a bad title. Briar Is just quiet and likes the color black and was diagnosed with schizophrenia-"
"That's the thing, Dr. Grande. Like I said, Briar has much more than just schizophrenia and sleep walking problems. She can hurt someone without knowing that she's doing it." Dr. Benjamin brought out a file that said Elsie Rosalind Case on it. He opened it up and showed Ariana the pictures of Elsie.
"This is Briar's mother and the many scars and burns she has gotten while she was alive and taking care of Briar. Two black eyes, multiple scars and burns on the arms and legs. Huge slash across her chest and stomach. She also almost drowned because of Briar and has gotten electrocuted multiple times, again, because of Briar."
Ariana looked at the pictures in shock then shook her head and gave the file back to Dr. Benjamin. "I don't care how much I get hurt because of Briar. I want to help and protect her. I know you would want to do the same, Dr. Benjamin. You have to have bravery to take care of your patients." Ariana said and got up and left the office.
She walked back to Briar's cell and looked through the small window that was in the door. 'Briar fell asleep on her journal.' Ariana thought to herself with a small smile on her face before leaving to go have lunch with Courtney and some other doctors.
