Chapter 40: Fool (Alexander's POV)
We both stood beside each other, staring at the big board that read tonight's show: Macbeth. We turned to each other, both of us stifling a laugh.
How does this theatre manage to con so many people into buying their tickets? Including us?
"Oh, come on, Archer! I really like plays, just come in!" We both looked to the right seeing what appears to be a couple. Well, to be specific. It seems to be like he really doesn't want to be here and she is quite literally dragging him in.
"Why? Why? Why God? Plays are so boring. Macbeth is so boring!" he groaned and then came to a screeching halt.
"But this theatre is famous. And it's not my fault the theatre in Zariya doesn't showcase anything often," she scoffed.
"Um, actually. This theatre is only famous because for their opening, they were able to bring in a playwright and he narrated his own play right in front of the audience. After that, everybody thought that this theatre would bring in playwrights often. That's why most people come. To see famous playwrights," Aria rambled.
The guy, Archer, who I am just now realizing is the prince of Zariya. And if what I've heard is right then this must be Evelyn, his wife. Zariya is also near us. A little further than Nethilore. It's a two, maybe three-hour drive.
We all stared at Aria.
I'll never know how she knows such random things.
"I'm Aria, by the way. Nice to meet you," she smiled, extending her hand.
"Evelyn."
See, I was right.
"This is my husband Archer."
"Oh, this is my husband Alexander," Aria laughed, linking her arm with mine.
"You're the prince of Azura, correct?" he asked.
"And you of Zariya," I replied.
"Oh!" Evelyn exclaimed. "We heard about your wedding, actually. We were invited, I'm really sorry we couldn't come. Our daughter was sick at the time," she chuckled.
"You have a daughter? Oh, how old is she?" Aria asked, her eyes sparkling with adoration. I know she likes children.
"She just turned one a few months ago," Evelyn replied.
"So, you don't like plays, huh?" I asked Archer, both of us following behind our wives who were on their way to the building.
"No," he shook his head. "They just seem very boring to me. The only thing moderately amusing is bad acting."
"Then you're in the right place," I chuckled. "You'll be entertained plenty here with bad acting."
"I didn't think I would. Everybody near Azura knows of this theatre."
"As my wife said, that's because of the grand opening they had. But since then, it's only managed to stay in business because they con people. There have been times where the promise a playwright will be there and there never is. But by then-"
"People have already bought the tickets so they may as well sit through the whole thing?"
I nodded, "Right. So, how long have you been married?" I asked.
"Five years," he replied. "You?"
"Barely a month," I snorted.
"You have a long way to go then," he laughed. "But you both look quite good together, I must say."
