Ok, so as an excited baby witch, I was everywhere. I went to every website, book, and any resources that I was able to find. There was a load of information- which not all of was actually true. I'm here to debunk the most common myths about being a witch.
1) witchcraft = wicca.
This is completely untrue. Wicca is a neopagan religion that includes witchcraft as a practice. Witchcraft is simply the practice which requires no oversight/initiation. Witchcraft can vary from practitioner to practitioner to suit the witches needs.
2) witchcraft is demon worship or witchcraft is a religion.
No. Just no. First off, witchcraft isn't a religion, meaning you don't need to "worship" any one. Atheist witches exist and their practices are just as valid as the witch who worships Norse, Greek, or any other deities. You don't have to work with gods or goddesses or any kind of formal religion, so why would you worship satan?
3) you can never use dark/black magick
Most of the confusion from this is because of the Rede, more specifically, "An it harm none, do what ye will." This is a Wiccan belief, and you don't need to believe this unless you are Wiccan.
4) there is a specific "way" to become a witch.
Witchcraft is a personal practice, and will vary from every person. There is no right way or wrong. With time you will make your own path.
