All they could see was a huge lake, stretching in all directions as far as the eye could see. Beth peered into the depths of the lake and could only see complete darkness. "Chloe, think we have a problem" she said as she turned to Chloe. But then something caught her eye. "I think I've found something!" They both stepped closer to the lake to see a magnificent golden light just beneath the surface. "The colour stone." Chloe breathed as her hand started to move towards the water but just as she touched her fingertips to the lake, she screamed. I quickly whipped round in horror to see that her fingers had turned to ice. "oh my goodness, Chloe are you alright!"
"Yes," she replied in a shaky voice," but what do we do now?" As if in answer to her question the whole cave rumbled and the golden shimmer in the lake began to grow bigger and closer until.....
'Boom' a huge head erupted from the lake. It let out a terrifying roar that made my blood curdle. It was a dragon. The cave stopped rumbling as the dragon started to speak. "The colour stone is greatly important, the colour has now been drained out of the desert and the surrounding towns and cities are next. I would like to help you, but, I do need a bargain. To give you the colour stone I will need one of you to stay with me for.......safekeeping...."
"What!"both the girls screamed in protest.
"You have ten minutes to decide who stays, and who goes." and with that the dragon submerged into the depths of the lake.
"I'll stay Beth, you need to go. You were the one who was chosen to come here!
"No!" Beth protested but she knew Chloe was right. She did need to go for she was the chosen one, but she couldn't just leave her here, she just couldn't! But then the cave started to rumble again and the dragons voice boomed off the walls."Your ten minutes are up! You have not decided who is staying with me so now you will both stay!" And with that the ground we were standing on tilted towards the lake. "We should have never trusted that dragon! We should have just ran away! Im sure there would have been another was to find the stone!" Screamed Chloe over the ever growing sound of the cave walls giving in. But there was no time to reply.Chloe and I crashed into the freezing water. I didn't freeze up. But as I looked down I saw a frozen solid Chloe sink to the bottom of the lake. I screamed as loud as my strained lungs would let me under the ice cold lake. But I knew it would do no good. I swam away with tears in my eyes, so upset I didn't even notice...
