I walked up the pathway to the old hotel.

I left my car running as the rain crashed down, leaving marks on the window.

It was a dark and stormy night out here, rain pouring down, and lightning dancing across the sky. I had a clipboard and a pencil in hand, fiddling with them in nervousness.

Today, I was hired as a janitor for the Sea View Hotel. Apparently, this old hotel didn't have much staff, so I decided that I should take the job.

How bad can it be?

I ran from the car to the doors as fast I could, being pelted by the rain.

I pushed open the doors and walked up to the empty desk.

"Hello? Is anyone here?"

I rung the desk bell, awaiting response.

I double checked the clipboard.

Cleaning chemicals and wipes? Check. Janitor uniform? Get at the front desk. Mop and bucket? Ask about them at the front desk.

Alright. Not too much on my list.

"Can I help you, miss?"

I look up from my clipboard, and suddenly there was someone at the front desk.

I jumped a little bit, causing the mysterious man to chuckle.

"Sorry for the sudden appearance. I didn't mean to scare you"

I laughed and said,

"It's alright. I'm a bit jumpy today"

I pulled out a piece of paper from my jacket and handed it to him.

He unfolded it and read it.

"I was hired to be a janitor here. I heard there wasn't much staff and there needed to be more employees"

He nodded and set the paper on the desk.

"Ah yes. Let me go get your uniform. Please excuse me"

He walked into the back room, and started faintly talking.

It sounded like he was angry at something.

I hope I didn't bother him too much, arriving at the hotel so late at night.

He came back a second later with my uniform.

"Here you go, ma'am. If you don't mind me asking, for the hotel records, what's your name?"

I took the uniform and said,

"I'm Y/n. Y/n L/n" (First and last name)

He smiled.

"What a wonderful name"

He said, as he wrote my name down on a piece of paper.

I smiled at his compliment.

"Thanks. Can I ask your name?"

He looked up from the paper and said,

"Jimmy. Jimmy Hall"

I tucked the uniform under my arm and said,

"It was nice to meet you, Jimmy"

I was going to leave to change, but Jimmy stopped me.

"Wait! I presume you will be staying here with us while you work, hm?"

I nodded.

"Take this"

He handed me a key that said '104'

"You'll need a room to sleep in"

I smiled and said,
