Death is peaceful. Dying is peaceful. It didn't scare Heather, it intruiuged her. To see, to know, what lies ahead. Dying is the way death greets you with open arms, leading you to the next life. But it has to at the right time, death cannot come too soon, nor too late. But she chose to take Death's hand and greeted him like an old friend.
She shouldn't have, but she did.
She had escaped her birthday party, the loud voices and blaring music disappearing into nothing. The astronomy tower stood high, staring into the cluster of stars and clouds. Her mind was unusually blank. Nothing would change her descision. Nothing would falter her choice. Not even him.Fred.
Her life, her whole universe, caved into one person. He filled her empty mind. The love of her life, who she was about to leave. She would depart him, and take deaths aching hand. He would understand, she's his forever and he is hers. She took his love and he took hers. They are one, but now she must leave.
The astronomy tower was cold and deserted as she wondered up the winding stairs, a cool wind whipping her face. This was it. She was here. She had to go.
The ledge was cold underneath Heather's feet as she stepped onto it, taking in her last glimpse of the world.
Magic wouldn't save her, apologies wouldn't save her, his undying love wouldn't save her. This was her way out, her escape. Her greeting to death, Heather's time had ended. And so here she stood, looking over the school grounds, a small smile placed on her lips.
"Heather?"
He was here. Fred. She turned as he stood with his hand on the door, a grieving look on his face. He was scared. Why was he scared? It was her time to go, he had to understand. They both had to understand. Aurora. Her beautiful darling girl. She was just like her father. Her daughter and lover, her only family, Heather's entire life.
"Heather, why are you-?" He looked at her, his chocolate eyes filled with fear. His lips were parted as a single tear rolled down his face. She smiled at him. They were together for her final hours, her last moment.
And so here they were, his eyes on Heather's and her's on his. He was frozen. They were in harmony, one again."Heather. Please. Don't do it, stay with me" he pleaded, the tears flowing faster.
But she had to be selfish. She couldn't stay. This world was made for her to leave it so soon, to take her own life and leave his. As cruel as it was, it was her purpose. She looked back at him once more, his auburn hair and golden freckles dancing in the pale moonlight. He was so beautiful, the prettiest sight for her final goodbye.
And then she leaned back and fell, watching as he ran towards her, screaming as she hit the floor.
