"Adjoa, relax, stop pacing, breathe , there is nothing to be anxious for."
"What do you mean 'there is nothing to be anxious for'?", I asked my sister.
"I am applying for a job at a prestigious company, one which I might most likely never even get, you know, because I'm crazy. I mean, I graduated top of my class only to make decisions like this. I should just stay home.", I said suddenly after sitting down on my bed.
"No, you will go to that office, blow away the interviewer and then make some serious mulla doing the thing that you love the most, helping people. Okay?"
"Okay", I said.
"Now get up, put on your shoes, walk out that door and make me proud", Aku said.
"Okay", I said with a new-found confidence.
"I hope you show off your Ivy League vocabulary instead of saying 'okay' repeatedly."
I rolled my eyes and said, "Fine. I will be back by three with pizza, thanks for speaking some sense into me, byeeeee."
Thirty minutes later, I arrived at King and Sons and was directed to the Human Resource Manager's office.
"Good Morning", I said with a huge smile on my face.
Time flew out of the window. It didn't feel like I was in a stressful environment. I felt like I was talking to a colleague. A colleague who shared all my values. He was kind, funny and outspoken. We talked about all my charity work and activism. With every word that was spoken, I felt as though I was right where I was supposed to be and I caught a glimpse of the kind of environment I would be working in if I got the job. I was quite pleased with what I saw.
"Okay, so it was lovely to meet you Adjoa, you will be contacted by the end of the week to inform you on whether or not you got the job. Also, if you don't mind, I would like to talk more over lunch, nothing related to the company of course. Oh! and I could also introduce you to my husband. He would love you", James, HR manager said.
"Thank you and I would love to. We can hash out the details on Instagram.", I said excitedly.
"Let me walk you out", he said.
As we walked out the door, blond lady bumped into me and said, "watch where you are going noob".
"Well she's pleasant", I muttered under my breath.
To my utter mortification, James heard me and started laughing heartily.
"Yeah, that's Amber, the office's resident mean girl", James said.
"Oh so everywhere has one of those?"
"Yup", James said.
"Well, it was lovely meeting you and I hope to see you both on Sunday and on Monday.", he said.
"Thanks and bye", I said then left.
On Friday at 5 am, I received a letter that said that I Kings and Sons would be happy to have me as a part of their staff.
