Short Description: (Jack and Elsa)

Childhood Friends AU

Inspired by the song "Champagne" from the musical "In The Heights", specifically the last few lines

----/----/----/----

"You know, I've always wanted to travel around the world." I told Elsa with a huge grin on my face.

"That sounds like fun. So are you going to fly around the world?" She asked.

"You can do that?" I asked her, completely puzzled. People can fly? Is that something you get to learn when you grow up?

"Yeah, on airplanes. Dad said they rode them all the time for business trips." Elsa explained. "They also used ships but they said airplanes go faster."

"Woah, think I'll get to ride one too someday?" I asked her, unable to contain my excitement.

"I'm sure you will."

"Maybe I could be a pilot when I grow up." I asked Elsa.

"You're really going to chase that dream of yours huh?" She raised an eyebrow.

"Of course I will, don't you wanna travel around the world too?" I asked her. Man, where do I even start trying to pitch the idea to her? It's just such a grand idea that I don't think I'd be able to talk about it in just one sitting.

"Not really."

And just like that it's like my dreams has been crushed.

"Huh? Why not?" I asked her, trying to keep my cool.

"I don't know. I feel like I'd just... lose time with people I care about." She looked at me with a pained expression.

I let out a sigh. "Don't worry, when I become a pilot you're always going to come with me. Think of it like how your parents went to business trips and it was just them." I nudged her.

She laughed. "Yeah right, like you'd want me to stick around your business." She said nudging me back.

"Well pilots and passengers ride on different parts of the plane so you won't be sticking around my business." I pointed out.

"But what if I was your co-pilot?" She raised an eyebrow.

"I don't know. Would you be able to keep the plane flying?" I raised an eyebrow too.

"Don't underestimate me." She stuck her tongue out like a child before laughing again.

There it was. The acceptance letter I've been waiting for, from a prestigious aeronautics school just a plane ride from here.

I get to ride a plane for the first time and get to learn how to fly one once I get there.

Just as I was about to contact Elsa, my phone rang.

"Elsa perfect timing I was just about to-"

"Jack." That's all I heard before unstoppable sobbing flooded my speaker. "Jack, it's my parents-"

I couldn't be there for her.

The virtual interview was rescheduled and out of all the days it had to be the same time as the funeral. Honestly, I don't know how it could get worst for me and her there.
