NICOLE'S POV
I left the room for a second to check on Leia's parents, and suddenly the monitor she was hooked to began beeping really fast. Panicking I ran to get the doctors. I found a man in a doctor's scrubs and coat, and ran towards him and explained the problem while walking, well stalking, to Leia's room. We ran in and she was lying, still as a corpse and the monitor beeping away. The doctor entered with a few nurses in tow.
It all happened in such a blur, and before I knew t, I was moved out of the room and Leia into surgery. Her parents were huddled together in a corner. Alex didn't say a word. All of us were stunned to silence.
We all sat, motionless in the waiting area. The nurse coming up and telling us various things all to do with leaving, eating or sleeping. No one said a word. After what seemed like years, the doctor walked towards us, an wearing an expression very difficult to decipher.
"What happened? How is she?" asked Leia's dad, the worry evident in his voice. What he must be feeling is unimaginable. Leia and her parents were very close. She was the quintessential daddy's girl. We were all believing in whatever or whoever above us listened. Praying that we get her back.
"She was in cardiac arrest. She lost a lot of blood in surgery. Her body has been through a lot of trauma. Fortunately, we got to it in time. By the laws of medicine, the next twenty four hours are critical, if she makes it through, she will make up."
All of us had a mix of emotions coursing through us. The frustration of not being able to anything but wait was getting to us. We were restless and desperate.
The next twenty four hours weren't critical for just her.

TWENTY FOUR HOURS LATER.
ALEX'S POV
We had all managed to fall asleep while waiting. I had just woken up and I was looking at Leia lying on the bed looking smaller than usual. She looked small and frail, but somehow managed to look beautiful. Man, I had it bad. Surprisingly, I was okay with that. She needed to wake up so I could hug her and kiss her.
I turned away for a second and then back, and I swear I saw her eyes flutter. Thinking this was the moment I woke everyone else up. We waited. Half an hour later, the doctor entered the room. He looked at all of us with a look of sympathy glazing his features.
He checked her reflexes. Turning towards us, he said, "She looks good. Now its just a matter of time"
We all decided that Nicole, Me and Leia's parents would stay until 12:00 and the everyone would come back and take over from us.
Everyone reluctantly left. We all sat around Leia's room lost in our own thoughts. I was thinking about the time that Leia and I were alone and talking to each other and she being the klutz she was managed to fall over. I caught her in time, and that turned into the moment I fell.
I looked up at her, willing her with every cell in my body to wake up. To my utter disbelief. Her eyes opened into mine.
NICOLE'S POV
We were all sitting around Leia's room. I was lost to the world drowning in the many memories I had with Leia. I remembered this one time she had just discovered Alex had a new girlfriend and ran to my house in the pouring rain, and we just talked for hours. That was our relationship. Simple but extraordinary.
My thoughts were suddenly interrupted by Alex screaming with joy. Turning towards him, I saw Leia's parents and him huddled around her bed. She was awake! After days of waiting, she was awake. I ran out to get the doctor. He came in and began checking her reflexes. He turned towards us and said, " Everything looks remarkably good. She's very lucky, she's gotten off with no damages to her neurological reflexes. She can be moved home after two hours of observation. But she needs to continue her medication and her exercises for two more weeks."
Overwhelmed by all this, Leia's parents ran towards the doctor an hugged him. I went over to Leia who was looking at me with a grin. "Welcome back" I whispered. A simple smile was my response. Smiling back, I motioned to Alex and we left the room to give Leia and her parents a moment.
Outside, the joy on Alex's face was evident. We began calling the rest of our friends to let them know that Leia was awake!
LEIA'S MOM POV
All of her friends crowded around her, the joy and relief evident on their faces. When Alex and Nicole had left us alone with her, she had told us, sworn to us that she did not attempt to end her life. She was there, yes, but she had slipped. She promised, and that's what we will believe.
Alex had confessed to us a little while ago that he was in love with her. She told us that she liked him a while back, and we had no problems with the boy. He was a good boy, and he would keep her happy.
I turned towards my husband, his features relaxed as opposed to his rather tense stance a few hours ago. He loved his daughter, and this was a major blow to him. I turned towards Leia's room. She looked at her friends and then at Alex, who tenderly leaned in a placed a soft, chaste kiss on her lips.

LEIA'S POV
Learning that my letters had been read, and had been taken in this spirit made me very happy. Alex loved me back, and Nicole was herself again. That was what I asked for.
Today was the day I could finally go home. I was alone in my room, while my parents had gone to the reception to finish some paperwork. I was putting my medicines into a little caddy to carry home, when I noticed eyes on me. Looking up, I saw my beautiful boyfriend, leaning against the door with a small smile. He was wearing a pair of dark jeans, a v neck T-shirt and sneakers. He walked towards me and pulled me close. "I've been waiting to do this for a while" he said, and then he bent down and kissed me. A kiss filled with passion and love. One that rebirthed in me what I have to look forward to.
