At CatCo; night, we see that everyone holding a cocktail glass expect Tony.
Andrea: This room, look at this room. It's practically overflowing with talent. Journalism's best and brightest. And tomorrow, we'll be joined by the renowned William Day.
Tony: Wait, William Day?
Kara: From The Times of London?
Andrea: Yes. Because as stacked as we are already, we can always be bigger. We can always be stronger. We can always be better. And together, we're gonna create a world-class news organization that drives consumer cross-platform engagement.
Tony: Ooh...
Nia: I'm sorry, uh... consumer cross-platform...
Andrea: Engagement. Eyeballs, revenue, we're gonna take your already-brilliant work and we are gonna sharpen it until it's deadly, and we're gonna monetize it.
James: With all due respect, Ms. Rojas, we don't allow revenue to drive editorial decisions here.
Andrea: And it shows. [James chuckles] You've been running the ship, James. How's subscribership?
James: It's down.
Andrea: Who wants that? When Ms. Danvers won the Pulitzer, readership tanked. It gives a certain kind of impression that the paper is pedantic, it's heavy, it's dull, like homework.
Kara: That's insane.
Andrea: No, Kara... what's insane is branding a company in a way that causes people to click away from the site.
Kara: The news is not about clicks.
Andrea: Everything is about clicks. From Fortune 500 companies selling their wares to a new mom posting her child's birthday, today the measure of worth is on a click. To survive, CatCo needs to pivot. Attention spans have plummeted along with revenues. Readers want watercooler news that's just fun to read and just as easy to digest.
James: That, um... I'm pretty sure I can speak for everybody in the room when I say that if that is the kind of content that you wanna create here, we will walk. This is not what we signed up for.
Andrea: But it literally is. You're all on a brand-new, three-year contract. If you're not interested in helping me drive CatCo into the future, you are more than welcome to side roll out of the car, just as I am welcome to exercise your non-compete clauses. I'd hate to see such talent be driven permanently from the business. But if your heart isn't in it, let me know. By the way, [points at Tony] this young man here, Tony Knight, big fan of mine who loves Obsidian North of advanced technology company. Isn't that right, Tony.
Tony: Mmm... oh yeah I love all your technologies, [chuckles] It's a really good though. It's fantastic they had VR gym, medical wing, and is really good tech there. And let you everyone know that I'm a... [chuckles] I'm a really big fan of her.
Warning: Flirting
Andrea: I always enjoy meeting a fan.
Which made everyone shocked, surprised, and eye widened as they're extend their eyes to everyone expect Tony.
Andrea: Especially when they're young as adorable as you.
Tony: [Frowns curiously, blushing, and chuckles] Thanks.
Andrea: [Smiles] Well, that's it. [Lifts her cocktail glass in mid-air] Cheers to the future.
Andrea then walks away as Tony looks around and saw everyone stares at him.
