------------------------------------------------------------------

derek's pov.

I wake up to the sound of my alarm blaring, my mind racking with thoughts. It's been a week since I've been released from the hospital, two since I woke up from a coma.

The doctors cleared me to go back to work, and even though everyone disagrees with it, I decided that it was about time I went back.

I let out a stifled groan in annoyance as my eyes flutter open. I let out a yawn as I turn my alarm off, rubbing the back of my neck as I sit up in bed.

I let out another heavy groan, this time from the pain in my lower abdomen. I wince slightly as I climb out of bed, walking out of my bedroom and into the bathroom.

I flicker on the bathroom light, wincing lightly at the sensitivity my eyes now have to bright light.

I stand in front of the mirror, examining myself closely-I feel different. Before the incident, I was this person who had this glow-hitting on every woman I came across and having this bright and flirty personality.

Now, I feel like a whole part of me is missing from my mind and body-like I lost a half of me that I didn't even know I need until now.

My mind travels as faded, hazy flashbacks fill my mind.

Charlotte chuckles softly, shaking her head slightly, "Don't even think about it, huckleberry. We just met and I don't go after guys like you." She states.

I gasp playfully, "Guys like me?" I asks in a defensive tone, acting offended by her words.

I smile softly to myself as the memory slowly fades away.

I still can't piece together what Charlotte and I were-she claims we were just friends, but I swear Reid's facial expression had a completely different tell to the story.

My imagination travels as another hazy memory suddenly fills my mind.

Charlotte looks up at me, "How'd you know I like ranch with my chicken tenders?" She asks in a shy tone, smiling softly.

"I'm full of surprises." I state, winking at her-making her cheeks go red.

I grin softly as the memory slowly fades away, just like the others-the memories constantly sending shrills of comfort through my mind, body, and veins.

My thoughts are suddenly interrupted by my phone ringing in the distance. I quickly walk out of the bathroom, heading straight for my bedroom.

I grasp my phone off the nightstand, answering the call before I can even check the Caller ID who see who it is.

"Morgan." I state in a solemn tone.

"Hey..." I hear a familiar female tone mutter through the phone.

I pull the phone away from my ear slightly, grinning softly as I read Charlotte's name on the screen.

"Hey." I state in a low tone as I walk out of my bedroom, heading back to the bathroom.

Charlotte clears her throat slightly, trying to adjust to the awkward tension between the two of us, "I heard you're coming back to work today... That's exciting." She states.
