Aspyn's POV
When I found out that my birthday present was a year long, all expense paid trip to Paris with my best friend, Alex, I never thought we would end up stuck in the deserted outskirts of the city. And how does One Direction end up in the story?
*Earlier that day*
"C'mon Aspyn! I heard from Josh that the outskirts are really pretty and filled with fun touristy sights." Alex, being the annoying best friend that he is, tried to convince me to go on some sketchy road trip with him.
"Do you trust everything Mr. Josh Devine says?" I rolled my eyes. Yes you heard me right. I, Aspyn Whithers am friends with the Josh Devine. Well, I wouldn't call him a friend but that's a story for another time.
"Josh isn't that much of a prick. He's my brother and I trust him," Alex defended. He had on a pouty look. Alex is a pretty buff guy, so seeing him pout like a little girl was something I couldn't just ignore.
I sighed in defeat, "Fine."
I swear I have never seen Alex smile that big since he found out that Josh was still alive.
I packed a small backpack of things for Alex and I, just in case. The backpack consisted of hand sanitizer, snacks, water bottles, hand lotion (it was winter and I get really dry skin), gum, and some CD's to listen to. I remembered to bring my camera bag just in case Alex was right about the cool touristy things that we might see. I debated whether to bring our GPS system if we got lost, or if something went wrong. But what could go wrong? I left the GPS in our hotel suite and scampered into my bathroom.
Contented with the items in the backpack, I changed out of my pajamas and put on some sweat pants and a Jack Wills t-shirt. I hated wearing jeans in car rides. They always made me feel like I had a wedgie. I threw my hair up in a bun and put on a light layer of makeup.
"Alex," I called out into the suite. "Alex, are you ready to go?"
Alex came dashing out his room with the keys to the rental car and his wallet. He was still in his pajamas.
"Alex, aren't you going to change?"
"Nope," he said simply as he put on his coat and shoes and ran out of the suite. I shrugged and slipped on my jacket and Ugg boots before following Alex out the door.
After an hour or so of driving, we were well in the outskirts, but there was no sign of any touristy spots... or any other tourists.
"Umm... Aspyn," Alex looked at me as he stopped driving, "I think Josh lied to us."
I rolled my eyes. "Typical." Alex remained silent; like there was something else he needed to tell me.
"Okay well, just make a u-turn and let's head back to the hotel. We can go out to a late lunch if you want." Alex still remained silent.
"Aspyn, remember when you told me to gas up the car and pick up some food yesterday?" Odd question to ask, but I nodded.
"I remember."
"Well, um... I-I went to a coffee shop to meet up with this girl I met at the airport a week ago instead."
"What are you trying to say Alex?" I almost shouted.
"We're out of gas... oh, and the car battery is dead."
"YOU IDIOT!" I screamed. I checked my phone. No reception. "Not only are we in the middle of nowhere in the dead of winter with no car heater to warm us up, but we are also in a place of no reception!"
"Aspyn, why don't we just ask for help?"
"Because, Alex... there is no one here. AND WE DON'T SPEAK FRENCH."
And that my friends is just the beginning of our story.
*Present time*
Two hours. It's been a whole two hours of sitting here in this car with my idiot of a best friend, freezing our butts off. You would think that things would have been better by now, that we would have come up with an idea of how to get back, but nope. Nada. In fact, things have gotten worse. About fifteen minutes after yelling at Alex, it started to snow. I'm not talking about tiny little snowflakes falling from the sky, I'm talking about a full on Dairy Queen blizzard kind of snowing.
Alex has fallen asleep beside me after about five minutes of trying to push the car and somehow bring it to life. As expected, nothing happened. I'm beginning to believe that we were just going to have to wait it out until the snow stops and walk back to the hotel. I close my eyes in hopes of falling asleep and waking up in a cozy and warm bed, but I can't. I feel like I can do something about this. I feel like there is one last thing that I haven't tried yet.
I reached for the backpack that was placed on the back seat of the car and started to search through it. I have no idea what I was searching for, but I'm sure that when I find it, I'll know that's it. I pull out the half drunken water bottles, the empty snack wrappers and the other useless things until my hand comes across a walkie talkie. Uncle Paul!
Let me give you some back round information. Paul is a friend of my dad's. He and I were very close when he still lived with us in London, but Paul got offered some job that involved a lot of travelling, but due to memory loss issues, the job he was offered slipped my mind. Before he left, when I was still in the hospital unconscious, he left a box on the bedside table. Inside of the box was a chargeable walkie talkie and a note.
Aspyn, when you wake up, because I know you'll pull through, just know that you will never lose connection with me, no matter how far I am. I had to leave for work while you were unconscious. I'm sorry I never got the chance to say a proper goodbye, but with this little gadget, you can reach me wherever I am, no matter where you are. It doesn't require cell phone reception and the connection distance has no limit. The only downside is that you can't leave messages. I promise you that I will have my walkie talkie on at all times. It will always be with me, so that you can give me a "call" anytime.
-Paul
I hope he kept that promise. I haven't used the thing once. I never really needed too. To be honest, I almost completely forgot how close he and I were. My memory has gotten a bit better, but Paul is still just an unfinished puzzle just like everything else. I picked up the walkie talkie, pulled out the antenna, and held down the "talk" button.
"Paul... it's Aspyn," my voice said unsteadily.
"Aspyn!?"
~Thanks for reading the first chapter(: Come back for more. The story line is bit more creative then her and Alex being stuck in Paris. Speaking of Alex, do you believe he's just a friend? And what happened between her and Josh? Did Josh almost die? Did Aspyn almost die? And of course, is this a love triangle between Aspyn, Josh and Alex? Or are there more people involved?
